Description
Here we offer a TRUE peeled Beatles' Yesterday and Today butcher cover, perhaps the most valuable mass-produced album ever, a cherished relic of the 20th Century. To any Beatlemaniac, this is the most elusive treasure--hand's down. The Butcher Cover was the Beatles' satirical response to lunatics who burned Beatles records after John said the Beatles were "bigger" (more popular, he meant) than Jesus Christ. Don't miss John's hand pointing down to Satan in the corner or Ringo grabbing himself--or, for that matter--probably the biggest smile emotionally-dark George Harrison ever offered for a photo-shoot. Hysterical. The record company followed Beatle orders and printed the covers, but after the record covers were completed and just before they were released to stores, executives at Capitol Records exclaimed, "?!" and ordered the pasting of a bland substitution over the ones that had already been prepared for sale.
The reason I stress "true" is that repros of the butcher illustration are being sold on Ebay, as are "expert peels" that show no sign of glue or peeling. I know this one is real because I peeled it myself. Afraid of damaging the butcher image, I left lots of glue and bits of the paper that belonged to the overlay. I did make the mistake of digging down too far through the butcher illustration in a few small spots. The cardboard is very slightly warped in the style of all the true peels I've ever seen. The edges of the cover have a small amount of wear, but no splitting. The rear of the cover has some ringwear and scuffs like a typical used album cover would. I've taken very close-up pics, so you know what you are getting. There is a number "5" next to the RIAA symbol. It comes complete with the original stereo album, in near mint condition, and original sleeve. As I peeled apart the original overlay, I am providing a cover to the eventual final "Yesterday and Today" cover to display with your butcher cover. I am also including a copy of the letter Capitol sent to the record stores when they pulled out, and a very nice pair of glossies--contrasting pics of the Fab Four standing by a car in both ends of their career, approximately 8.5 x 11," which I had on hand that you should find a nice extra.
If you are looking for the real McCoy, the coveted Beatles Butcher Cover, you have found what you are looking for!
This very special package would make a stunning addition to your collection or a very special gift.
