Description
I was driving down Van Nuys Blvd. in Los Angeles on June 20, 1966, when the disk jockey began playing the new release by the Beatles track by track. I immediately headed to the nearest record store and bought my copy, and this is it.
I owned a small recording studio at the time, so I had good equipment play my records on, and I always took care of them. They were cleaned with a dust magnet before playing. I don't have anything to play this on at the moment, but I believe it to be in very good condition. Looking at it with a magnifier, I see one surface scratch that looks like I might have dropped the needle. It does not look like it is deep enough to cause any problems in playback, but I can't be sure. If I had to guess, I'd say the record had only been played about a dozen times. I was always interested in new music, and after I played a record a few times, I seldom listened to it again.
The inner sleeve is in excellent condition. The back cover has some staining on it, probably from sliding the records in and out of the shelf, and maybe I got it a little damp steaming off the trunk cover. My peel job was less than perfect, tearing the butcher cover in several spots (see photo). I wish I had been smarter about that one.
It's time this album had a new home.
