THE BEATLES - 'WHITE ALBUM'
1969 UK 1st/2nd *CROSSOVER* STEREO PRESSING
**'ROCKY RACOON' MISSPELLING*
This unusual copy combines 1st & 2nd pressing discs & appears here as originally purchased. Neither discs, cover or inserts have been switched.
Both discs are on the dark green Apple label: PCS 7067 & PCS 7068
However, only disc 1 labels carries the 'Sold in UK..' text.
Label 2 misspells track 4 as 'Rocky Racoon' (should be 'Rocky Raccoon').
Both disc 2 labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text but still have the 'An EMI Recording' text on one line.
There is no tax/price code is visible on any label.
Housed in a fully laminated, top-loading 'Garrod & Lofthouse' stereo cover, numbered: No. 0510792
Complete with plain white 'Patent Nos.1125555/1012844' inners, 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed poster, four card colour photos & photo-spacer.
Matrix numbers: YEX 709-1, 710-1, 711-2, 712-2
Stamper numbers: 1/RR, 2/LH, 4/GLO, 3/GPD
Visual: EXCELLENT
Both surfaces are glossy and bright with side 1 displaying just two light fingernail lines in direct daylight.
Side two carries a 1cm lateral scratch at the end of 'Why Don't We Do It In The Road' but is otherwise unmarked.
Futher inspection directly under a halogen desk lamp reveals just a few very faint inner-sleeve storage marks but further wear.
Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable.
Audio: EXCELLENT MINUS
All tracks play without any groovewear distortion in either channel or any other significant deterioration to the sound quality.
However, there are few light ticks on the fade-out of 'Glass Onion' and a 2-groove jump at the end of 'Why Don't We Do It In The Road'.
There are no further audible faults.
Slight storage rub to the upper black section only on side 3. Just a single spindle trail to each label.
Visual: Side 3 EXCELLENT Side 4 EXCELLENT PLUS
Again, both surfaces are glossy and bright with side 3 displaying just a few light fingernail lines in direct daylight. Side 2 is unmarked.
Close inspection directly under a halogen desk lamp reveals some wispy paper hairlines, but no further marks or wear.
Audio: NEAR MINT
All tracks on both sides play perfectly with no traces of any crackle, peak/groovewear distortion or any other audible wear.
Cover: EXCELLENT
A clean, unyellowed example, retaining a high-gloss laminate all-round.
The front panel bears a clean & bold individual number with a totally intact laminate around the raised lettering.
There is minor briusing to the right corners only the faintest touch of handling wear to the top-opening edges, but no major signs of wear to them.
The rear panel is also clean with a clear 'stereo' logo, but has a 3.5 cms cut near the spine.
The inside bears just a single, small thumbail crease on the left panel, but has clearly remained unopened for many years.
The spine is slightly squashed but all the laminate is present and all the text readable.
Both discs have been carefully audibly graded in their entirety on a Rega P9 deck fitted with a Shelter 901 cartridge.
