Description
The Beatles – VJ EP 1-903 – “Ask Me Why” – Promo 45
Real Record – Reproduction Sleeve
In March, 1964, Vee-Jay Records released Souvenir of Their Visit to America, the first of three EP’s (Extended Play 45’s) released in the U.S. and the only one released by Vee-Jay. The EP featured four songs that had previously been released by Vee-Jay on the Introducing...The Beatles album. The EP was a great success, far outselling either of the Capitol EP’s.
This auction is for the much rarer promotional copy of the EP. The label has bold type for “Ask Me Why”, probably because the folks at Vee-Jay thought that was going to be the hit. The blue and white label is in Very Good + condition, while the vinyl is a step down, at Good.
Included in the auction is a REPRODUCTION of the sleeve that was distributed with early copies of the record. This sleeve, real and original, is the rarest of all U.S. Beatles’ sleeves, and commands a price in the tens of thousands of dollars. That being said, this copy is fun to display with the record.
