Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s PMC 7027 missing day in the life dble misprint LOVELY COPY

There are three very special things about this original mono pressing of The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s club band’ in EXCELLENT (see below for full details) condition, which makes this record extra super special, and a possible one-off. 

Firstly, on the side one label of the record there is the rare misprint of an extra ‘.’ in ‘sold in u.k.’ so that it reads ‘sold in .u.k.’. 

Secondly, there is the even rarer (and highly sought after) misprint  on the side two label which is missing ‘A Day in the Life’ in the track listing. 

Now, I have done everything I can to research this record and every record I have come across with the first misprint lacks the second misprint and vice versa. For example, in these listings ‘A day in the life’ is missing on side two but the extra ‘.’ is not present on side one:

Try as I might, I have been unable to find any information on any other copies which include BOTH misprints. The double misprint is not mentioned in any of the lists of sgt. Pepper’s oddities. Somehow one of the rare ‘.u.k.’ labels has been matched with one of the the super-rare ‘missing Day in the Life’ labels. The odds of this happening seem extremely slight and so this is a possible one off - certainly I can find no other mention of another copy anywhere. 

It says here that there only 300 copies of the missing ‘Day in the Life’ record went on sale, so the number of records with BOTH misprints is certainly going to be very small indeed. If you read the above thread, you can also see that there is some question among Beatles aficionados about whether the missing ‘Day in the Life’ copies were the very first 1967 copies or later 1968 copies. Well, I think this particular record solves the dispute! This is because it comes in the rare jacket which has ‘patent pending’ on the back (this is the third special thing about the record). Since it makes sense that the ones with the patents still pending were the very first jackets, it must be true that this missing ‘day in the life’ record, which comes in a ‘patents pending’ sleeve, was one of the very first records to be pressed! So not only do we have a possible one-off, we have a record which is solid evidence for solving an ongoing Beatles dispute! 

Now onto condition. This is a lovely copy, and the sleeve and vinyl are graded at EX. I have listened through to the record just once very carefully and it plays like an absolute dream. Apart from some minimal surface noise at the beginning of side one, which fades quickly during the first song, and two very faint crackles at the end of side two, the audio is NEAR MINT and fit for the most scrupulous audiophile. It is just amazing how good this record still sounds. There is only one, small (1/2cm) scratch that can be felt with a fingernail (but does not affect playback) on side one, other than this just light hairlines and not very many. Record still retains its rainbow lustre. The labels are very clean and unfaded with some slight spindling only noticeable under strong light. 

As for the cover, the spine is fully legible with a couple of brown spots. Lamination is fully intact apart from one or two very small bubbles. There is some minimal edge and corner wear, and a thin crease on the back bottom left corner, but that’s about it. 

The insert is NM. Comes with a plain inner, as is correct for this edition (see above thread).

A really lovely copy of this desirable misprint, with a second misprint to boot, which perhaps makes it the only one of its kind!!
