The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Matrixes YEX 637-1, YEX 638-1. No mother or stamper codes. Labels have curved logos at bottom with "Made In Nigeria", and "EMI (Nigeria) Ltd" perimeter lettering.

Vinyl in very clean condition. Marks around the spindle areas indicates a few plays, but not excessively so. Vinyl surfaces are mostly free of marks save for one or two thumbing imprints and just a very few superficial and non-sounding hairline surface scuffs. There are no scratches or gouges, and LP has clearly been well looked after. There is just one slightly more visible scuff mark, although this is extremely tiny in nature, approx 2mm long. This produces three consecutive extremely low level ticks, which are really very unobtrusive. Playback is clean and bright throughout, with just the most infrequent of isolated and quietest of ticks and minor and short lived instances of low level crackle. Most of this is at the beginning of the sides, and likely caused by handling grease. Aside from the one mentioned instance, there are no instances of loud and continuous clicks. In UK terms, a very strong VG edging close to EX.

Labels are clean and undefaced both sides.

LP is housed in a UK manufactured fully laminated, visible inner-flipback gatefold "Printed and Made by Garrod & Lofthouse" mono sleeve. This is laminated throughout front and back. Includes clean and uncreased insert. The inner sleeve is plain white paper, presumably as issued. This has suffered seam splitting. I will send the LP out in a new inner liner, but will include the original inner liner.

Sleeve in generally clean and complete condition. The sleeve has a slight overall undulation, obviously caused by poor storage at one time or another. The sleeve is now totally dried out, and displays no mould growth. There is just a touch of this undulation to the insert also, but this is extremely minor. Tips and extremities are mostly very clean and sharp, although there is a touch of whitening to tips. The odd light dot of a chip and scrape here and there, but very few and far between, and on the whole sleeve still has a really good appearance and is free of excessive pinch marks to spine area and the usual half moons and hairline raises in the laminate surface. Just a touch of storage ringwear rubbing to front and rear, but this is not at all marked. No seam splits, and the spine is clean and unfrayed. Entry side has not suffered feathering and is still very sharp.

All in all a very nice copy of an extremely scarce pressing.

Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.

Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
