Description

THE BEATLES - 'SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND'

1969 UK 'ONE E.M.I. BOX' MONO LABEL

***ULTRA-RARE STEREO MISPRESS***

This 1969 mispressing is arguably the rarest UK pressing of 'Sgt. Pepper'.

Produced in late 1969 after the switching from the yellow & black to the '1-EMI-Box' label, it was not just a case of using mono labels on a stereo disc.

Each label bears the MONO catalogue number (PMC 7027) but carry STEREO matrix numbers (YEX 637 & YEX 638)

This error extends onto the vinyl as the matrices in the run-out/dead wax are STEREO (YEX..) and naturally the disc plays in STEREO.

This copy comes complete with its original Apple advertising poster.

This ultra-rare 1969 mono/stereo MISPRESSING is on the UK black & silver 'One EMI Box' label Parlophone label: PMC 7027

Both labels carry the STEREO matrices: YEX 637 & YEX 638.

Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text, but carry 'Gramophone Co. Ltd...' rims.
There is no tax/price code visible on either label.

Housed in a fully laminated, inner-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse' 'Patents Pending' mono cover.
Complete with its original white 'Patent No. 1,125,555 inner-sleeve & MINT cut-out sheet.

Matrix numbers: YEX 637-1 & YEX 638-1
Stamper numbers: 1/GLP & 2/GHT

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: VERY GOOD PLUS

Many spindle trails and light hole wear, but no writing, marks or missing paper.

Visual: VERY GOOD MINUS

Played many times, the surfaces are clean but bear some light fingernail scuffs & occaisional light scratch in normal daylight.
There is a 2cm 'feelable scratch on the side 1 'run-in' and another 2.5cm lateral one on side 2.
Further close inspection under a halogen desk lamp reaveals many light paper/sleeve removal hairlines.
However, the disc lies 100% flat on both sides with no dishing or warping.

Audio: VERY GOOD MINUS

Overall there is very little lessening to the sound quality with no significant crackle or groovewear distortion in either channel, on any track.
The abovementioned 'feelable' scratch on side 1 causes the stylus to stick on the run-in before the music begins.
There are a few light background ticks between tracks 4 & 5 but the remainder of side 1 plays without fault.
Side 2 bears an occaisional background tick with the other abovementioned scratch causing a single-groove jump on track 4, but no other faults.

Cover: EXCELLENT

The front panel retains a fine high-gloss, unmarked laminate displaying just a few light spine wrinkles but no 'thumbnail' creases.
There is a minor rub to the lower left corner but all others are clean & unbumped, and all opening edges are sharp & unworn.
The inside is in perfect condition and the rear panel bears just 2 small thumbnail creases but no other wear.
All seams are strong & unsplit and the spine is clean with all lettering intact & readable.

Apple Poster: EXCELLENT MINUS

Fine example with just some light creasing near the fold & a small (1cm) tear to the right of the centre fold.

Strict visual grading in daylight and directly under a halogen desk lamp & audibly at volume on high-end audio equipment
