READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles’ Second Album 1970 LP Undocumented AND With Error, NM in Shrink!

Many collectors are aware that for several decades, it was widely reported that the Apple label from 1970 with the “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer at the bottom of the Side 2 sliced Apple label was exclusively distributed on titles originally released from 1969 to 1971. This meant that “Meet the Beatles” through the White Album were thought to not have been pressed with this label variation. That is, until very recently. I have verified almost all titles in the catalogue with this label variation, and they are hard to find.
This is a copy of The Beatles’ Second Album that has this rare variation with the “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer at the bottom of the Side 2 sliced Apple label. But in addition, very surprisingly, it has the rare error on Side 2 of the extra numeral “2” under “Long Tall Sally!”
This error has been spotted on copies of the 1971 variation with the “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer on the Side 1 label, and very occasionally, you can find it also on the 1969 “Subsidiary of…” label. To date, I have never seen this error on any of the “All Rights Reserved” variations from 1975.
This is the second copy I’ve ever seen with the error on this variation. I previously sold my VG+ play copy. This is my NM copy, still in the shrinkwrap, which is my first copy. It’s also the copy that is pictured in my two-volume books on flash drive, also for sale now!
Vinyl--- NM/NM. Both sides shine brand new.
Plates--- R7/W8. (Ever see an “R” plate before?) Hand-etched Delta symbol (or rifle) in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Winchester.
Cover--- EX. Light uniform yellowing, front and back. Moderate yellowing down the mouth on the back cover. Nearly all seams and spine are muscular-strong, NO SPLIT SEAMS. The only compromised part is at the bottom left corner, where there’s a push-in that has a crunch and a small split.
Breathe Holes--- There are two breathe holes on the front cover. One is just under the red letter “S” in the word “BEATLES,” the other is due south below George’s photo.
Labels--- NM/NM. Both labels look as though they were just printed. Full colors, bold graphics and NO SPINDLE MARKS.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Generic white inner sleeve with die-cut hole for the labels to show is present, and in VG+ condition. Sleeve has moderately yellowed over the decades, and there is wrinkling. NO SPLIT SEAMS.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: 12
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
