THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
1963 UK MONO PRESSING LP
**BLACK & GOLD 'NORTHERN SONGS' LABELS**
This rare 1963 corrected 1st mono pressing is on the UK black & gold Parlophone label: PMC 1202
The labels carry the 'Northern Songs Ltd.' publishing credits for songs: 1 & 2 on side 1; and 4 & 6 on side 2.
There is no tax/price code is visible in the centre of either label.
Housed in a correct, front laminated, tri-flipback 'E.J. Day' mono cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme lower right corner.
Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N
Stamper numbers: 2/RD & 1,2/GM
A fine set with just some minor paper imperfections on side 2, but no writing, touch-up or missing paper.
Visual: EXCELLENT
Extremely clean & bright surfaces which retain their deep gloss shine & are undulled by overplay or improper storage.
Viewed in strong daylight, a few small & light fingernail scuffs are visible together with a single 4mm scratch on side 1, track 1.
Close inpection beneath a halogen desk lamp reveals no more than a few wispy paper hairlines but no other significant signs of wear.
Audio: VERY GOOD PLUS
Carefully & in no way over-played, there is no major lessening to the sound quality or major faults on this rare copy.
Careful listening at volume on headphones reveals slight distortion on the opening track & thereafter just slight peak wear but no significant faults.
Both run-ins and all bands play very quietly with just a touch of light background but no clicks, pops, hiss, jumps or repeats anywhere.
Overall the sound is clean & powerful with a deep well defined bass & clarity missing from later pressings.
Cover: GOOD
The front panel is bright and clean with some general edge wear & light creasing but no major faults.
Some rubbing & missing paper to the corners but the just minor wear to the opening edges with no tears or 'feathering'.
The rear panel is clean with just some light handling marks but no writing or missing paper.
Obvious damage & repair to the lower flipback but all are present & both seams are unsplit.
There is some wear to the spine laminate with the letter 'S' missing from the wording.
Strict visual grading in daylight and directly under a halogen desk lamp.
All discs are carefully play graded in their entirety on a Rega P9 deck with an Ortofon Kontrapunkt 'A' cartridge.
