BEATLES PLEASE PLEASE ME
MONO 1963 Rare Early Pressing 1L 1H
Welcome to the auction of my other half's much loved and played rare Beatles album. It has only been re discovered since I noticed the article in Record Collector. I have recently acquired a box of old L.P's and I bought a copy of the mag to help me with research. when I realised we still had a copy of this album - It has been tucked away in a drawer for at least 12 years - I found it and thoroughly enjoyed reading about it. It seems to 'tick all the boxes' and I hope someone will add it to a serious collection.
I have played it through twice (just to make sure) and it still sounds FAB to me. I could only hear slight crackles in between some of the tracks and a few pops, again in between some of the tracks. There are no skips or jumps or anything dodgy about the sound quality as far as I could tell. It sounds loud and clear and very enjoyable to listen to. There are plenty of surface marks scuffs and scratches but it is nearly 50 yrs old so surely that is to be expected of a much loved album like this. None of the scratches are deep or audible. Although I have to be honest and say I don't fully understand how records are graded.
It is the Dick James version with cover type 1 as described in R.C.: Angus Mc Bean, Ernest J. Day & Co. PMC 1202 Gold and Black label.
The record has an original 'Emitex' inner sleeve.
The cover is in good condition for age, please see photos as I am not an expert, I would not mean to mis describe in any way, neither would I like to have the record returned so please make your own judgements. I am happy to send more pics (i'm not very good with a camera, but I'll do my best).
The interesting part:
Side One:
Mother Disk/tool ref: 1 @ 9 O'clock, stamper ref: L @ 3 O'clock, matrix xex 421-1N @ 6 O'clock
Side Two:
Curiously the position of the label is such that the matrix xex 422-1N appears upside down at the 11/12 O'clock position if you read the label in the normal way, ie. without standing on your head! This means the mother Disk/tool ref: 1 is at the 3 O'clock position and the stamper ref: H is at 9 O'clock or thereabouts. I don't know if this is unusual or not but I can't think that it is H1, just probably that the label was stuck on upside down?
There is a ZT tax code mark on side one.
I hope this all makes sense to record collectors, I am doing my best!
This is a genuine copy of Please Please me, purchased by my husband in his distant youth, from a record shop local to Addlestone in Surrey sometime during 1963, I have lots more photos, any questions - please ask-, many thanks and happy bidding.
