U.S. Capitol 45 with West Coast Picture Sleeve

"Match Box" was written by Carl Perkins and first recorded by him at Sun Records in December 1956. The Beatles were fans of Perkins and began performing the song around 1961. Their then-drummer, Pete Best, took the lead vocals, but no studio recording featuring Pete singing the song is known to exist although a live recording with him on vocals does exist. In 1962, John sang the song during a performance at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; a recording of this exists and was included on Live! at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962.

The next year, the Beatles performed "Match Box" with Ringo on lead vocals for their BBC radio show; this version was included on the Live at the BBC album. Ringo also got to sing lead vocals on it when it was recorded in 1964. George Harrison played 12-string rhythm guitar, while John played the lead guitar riffs and solo. "Match Box" appeared on the Long Tall Sally EP in the UK. In the U.S., it appeared on the Something New album, and was released as a Capitol single on August 24, 1964, reaching Number 17 on the Billboard pop singles chart.

"Slow Down" was written by Larry Williams. It was released as the B-Side of Williams’ “Dizzy Miss Lizzy” single in 1958. The Beatles covered the song early in their career and eventually recorded a version and released it on their Long Tall Sally EP single in the UK. Not long after, the song was released in the U.S. as the B-side of 1964's "Match Box" single, reaching Number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.

This auction is for original Capitol 45 of “Match Box” backed with “Slow Down”. The Record is in Very Good condition with the exception of someone’s initials written in ink on the “Match Box” label. The Picture Sleeve is in Very Good+ condition, with no writing, or seam splits, minimal ring wear and just a bit of wrinkling at the top.
