Description

THE BEATLES - 'LOVE ME DO'/'P.S. I LOVE YOU

1962 UK *DEMONSTRATION* 45

Here is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the the rarest and most sought after of all Beatles records - a 100% genuine DEMONSTRATION 45 of their debut UK 45. Just a few hundred copies were specially pressed and distributed to DJs and reviewers before its official October 1962. Most were quickly discarded and as a result, only a handful of genuine examples survive today.

This genuine disc bears the correct 'oversize' labels which cover the serrated rim of the disc, with a large red 'A' on the 'Love Me Do' label: 45-R 4949

Both labels also carry the wording 'DEMONSTRATION RECORD - NOT FOR SALE' and 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd..' rim texts.

Paul McCartney's songwriting credit on both sides is misspelt as 'McArtney'

A 'ZT' purchase tax code is stamped around the centre of the 'Love Me Do' label & in both run-outs.

Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17144-1N & 7XCE 17145-1N

Both sides have the special 'promo/jukebox' stamper codes: -/JR & -/JR

The disc is housed within an original EMI promotional 'Top Pop' sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT

An extremely respectable set which are both clean & bright with no major blemishes or wear to either. There are some faint spindle marks around each centre hole but no wear to either cente hole itself. The images show the fully story here and I will let them do the talking.

Visual: VERY GOOD +

Both playing surfaces are clean and retain much of their original deep-gloss shines. Careful inspection in strong daylight shows a small amount of wispy hairline marks consistent with turntable contact but no significant surface marks or any scratches to either side. certainly nothing deep or heavy. Close examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp does little more than highlight these minor blemishes but adds no further signs or damage or wear. Both sides of this incredible disc lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Play: VERY GOOD

This disc has received a moderate amount of careful play and my careful play-check found no major deterioration to the sound quality. The sound is warm and full with just slight groove/play wear but this results in nothing more serious that a touch of light background noise. The bass remains deep and upfront and John's harmonica is clean & sharp. 'P.S. I Love You' plays similarly with slight more background but again, no major faults.

Cover

EXCELLENT

Clean & bright with slight storage wrinkling but no writing or seam splits.
