READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
Beatles LP Magical Mystery Tour Orange Label Strange Hybrid Plates, UNDISCOVERED!
Decidedly an East Coast copy.
There was an old-style Scranton insignia that was in official use by Capitol until 1963. It was supposed to have been a machine-stamp of an anvil, but it looks much more like a book lying open. The last Beatles title to employ this insignia was “The Early Beatles,” from 1965.
But for some reason, this copy of “Magical Mystery Tour” has that 1963 insignia stamped into the dead wax of Side 1. This was definitely a Scranton insignia, however; by 1976, the Scranton pressing plant had been offline and shut down for a good five years.
East Coast pressing duties had been assigned to the Winchester, VA plant, who used the insignia of a hand-etched elongated triangle, meant to resemble a Winchester rifle. That insignia appears in the Side 2 dead wax.
No other titles have been found like this.
Vinyl--- EX/NM. Side 1 has one short soft scuff, which can’t be felt with the fingertip. Otherwise, both sides appear unplayed.
Plates--- H38/F34. See above descriptions for dead wax insignias.
Cover--- Beautiful VG+. Shows minimal signs of wear. Booklet is loose, though. NO SPLIT SEAMS.
Labels--- NM/NM. Both labels look freshly printed, NO SPINDLE MARKS.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Nice VG. Uniformly browned on both sides, lightly wrinkled but NO SEAM SPLITS.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: N/A
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
