READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
I recently took in a large collection of Beatles albums, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX. They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label. I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.
The vinyl is collectable on these, although the covers may be a bit dirty, and/or split. Here’s one that’s a great, solid play copy.
Beatles LP Abbey Road Mystery Consignment 1969 First Pressing with Edge Ridges, VG+!
I’m not entirely sure. Columbia Records most-likely pressed this copy, but there are three discrepancies with Columbia lathes. First, the vinyl stock isn’t that flexible stock out of Columbia’s plants. It’s much more consistent with both Capitol and RCA vinyl stock. Secondly, Columbia’s trail-off groove usually has a wider spread than Capitol, whereas this one doesn’t. These look like Capitol trail-off grooves. But thirdly, the outer rim all the way around the circumference of the edge has ridges.
I’ve seen these before. Not often, though. Maybe once every 5 or 6 years, I’ll see one of these, and they tend not to be in very good condition.
This copy is a very strong VG+.
Vinyl--- VG+/VG+. Each side shines 90 to 95% brand new, but each side also has two or three light angel hairs. Just a shadow off of VG++.
Plates--- A33/A33. Definitely first pressing plates. There are no Capitol insignias in the dead wax, because it wasn’t pressed by Capitol.
Cover--- VG+. Structurally solid cover. This cover is the version with the photos printed directly to the cover, as opposed to having used slicks. Light ringwear on both sides. Top and bottom seams have moderate shelfwear, but NO SPLIT SEAMS.
Labels--- EX/EX. Labels are the alternate in-house Scranton labels with the tall and thin print. Concentric ring is closer to the outer edge of the labels, and are thin, like Columbia’s lathes cut them. Light spindle marks on both sides.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Strong VG+. Generic white inner sleeve with die-cut hole for the labels to show is present. Light to modersate yellowing. Wrinkles from improper insertion at the factory. NO SPLIT SEAMS.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: None
**This is the only Beatles title that I’ve ever seen with the rim ridges. If it IS a Columbia pressing, it’s the only title I’ve ever seen from Columbia, whether consigned, from their own catalogue, foreign or domestic that has these ridges. If it’s not Columbia, I’ve no idea who pressed this copy. **
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)

On Dec-09-25 at 11:30:21 PST, seller added the following information:Huge thank you to Pete from petesplatters for the following info: "Frank, Discogs has this one listed as manufactured at the Keel Record Co. in Hauppauge, New York. They describe the ridged rim as "serrated", not unlike the top end of a butter knife. Also, the Hauppauge plant used the serration on most if not all the vinyl they manufactured. Pete"
