READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles John and Yoko LP Double Fantasy RARE “Manufactured by” Purple Cap w Extras!

This pressing came very late in the vinyl game.  If this isn’t the last legit vinyl pressing before all the remasters and commemorations hit the market, it’s certainly close to it.  Refreshed plates make this pressing sound great.

An extremely hard piece to find!  There were also a couple of really cool extras that I found inside it, which you can have.

Vinyl--- EXCELLENT/ EXCELLENT.  Both sides retain about 98% original shine.  However, there is one very light scuff on side 1, and one angel hair on side 2.  Other than those, this is a blinding copy.

Plates--- C1-1-91425/ C1-2-91425.  Reassigned Capitol plates.  These are refreshed from the Geffen plates.  F1/ F1.  Stamped “Mastered by Capitol,” along with our friend, “Wally,” hand-etched both sides.

Cover--- VG+.  All Geffen references have been changed over to Capitol.  Geffen’s flat-textured cover has been replaced with heavy gloss cover, front and back.  Cover has a couple of heavy creases and a few areas of corner wear, but NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Labels--- NM/ NM.  Side 2 label has the embossed letters, “E, T and S.”  Song title, “I’m Your Angel” has been retitled, “Yes, I’m Your Angel.”  This is a carry-over from the rare RCA Record Club pressing.

Lyric Inner Sleeve--- VG+.  Shows signs of handling, but NO SPLIT SEAMS.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

                                      Cool Extras:

1.  Original 1980 sheet music for the lead track and single, “(Just Like) Starting Over” Nice condition.

2. Granola Dipps “Great Moments in Rock and Roll:  A Tribute to John Lennon.”

How many of you remember the Granola Dipps campaign from the mid-80’s? 

Each box of Granola Dipps came with a cardboard record, which gave a short report on a Rock and Roll chapter in history.  The ends of the records would tell you if you were a winner of their sweepstakes.

Try as I might, I had to respect the wishes of my friend who lets me test-play vinyl from time to time.  He emphatically didn’t want to play a piece of cardboard on his table, so I can’t report whether this record was a winner.  But by all counts, there has never been a verified copy of the Lennon record that was a winner.

We will have to assume that, as John sang on Beatles ’65, “I’m a Loser.”

Nonetheless, there can’t have been more than a thousand of these out there, can there?  And most of them were probably tossed at this point.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
