Brief Artist & Album/Single Info: "Hey Jude" is a song by The Beatles, written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. The ballad evolved from "Hey Jules", a song McCartney wrote to comfort John Lennon's son, Julian, during his parents' divorce. "Hey Jude" begins with a verse-bridge structure incorporating McCartney's vocal performance and piano accompaniment; further instrumentation is added as the song progresses. After the fourth verse, the song shifts to a fade-out coda that lasts for more than four minutes.

"Hey Jude" was released in August 1968 as the first single from the Beatles' record label Apple Records. More than seven minutes in length, it was at the time the longest single ever to top the British charts. It also spent nine weeks at number one in the United States, the longest for any Beatles single. "Hey Jude" tied the "all-time" record, at the time, for the longest run at the top of the US charts. The single has sold approximately eight million copies and is frequently included on professional critics' lists of the greatest songs of all time. In 2013, Billboard named it the 10th "biggest" song of all time.

In May 1968, John Lennon and his wife Cynthia Lennon separated after John's affair with Yoko Ono.The following month, Paul McCartney drove out to visit Cynthia and John's son, Julian, at Kenwood, the family's home in Weybridge. Cynthia had been part of the Beatles' social circle since before the band's rise to fame in 1963; McCartney later said he found it "a bit much for them suddenly to be personae non gratae and out of my life." Cynthia Lennon recalled of McCartney's surprise visit: "I was touched by his obvious concern for our welfare ... On the journey down he composed 'Hey Jude' in the car. I will never forget Paul's gesture of care and concern in coming to see us".

When introducing the composition to Lennon, McCartney assured him that he would "fix" the line "the movement you need is on your shoulder", reasoning that "it's a stupid expression; it sounds like a parrot." Lennon replied: "You won't, you know. That's the best line in the song." McCartney retained the phrase; he later said of his subsequent live performances of the song: "that's the line when I think of John, and sometimes I get a little emotional during that moment".

Although McCartney originally wrote "Hey Jude" for Julian, John Lennon thought it had actually been written for him. In a 1980 interview, Lennon stated that he "always heard it as a song to me" and contended that, on one level, McCartney was giving his blessing to Lennon and Ono's relationship, while, on another, he was disappointed to be usurped as Lennon's friend and songwriting partner.

CONDITION

Labels: The Green and White Apple Labels are both in Great order with Very little signs of Spindle Wear or Spider Marks. There are no Marks, Label Lifts or Writing anywhere. The All important Factory Sample sticker is attached to Side 1: of the Label. I would grade both sides as Very Good ++/Excellent!!!!

Vinyl: Now for the SAD part. This is ONLY being sold because of it's Label Rarity of having a Factory Sample sticker. I Played this through and Unfortunately it Stuck three time during Playback on Side 1:. Although Side 2: plays throughout Perfectly. Because of the Fact it does NOT play I can Only grade this as Side 1: Poor + and Side 2: as Very Good ++!!!!

Cover/Sleeve: This is an ORIGINAL Black Apple Matt Sleeve that was issued with this Single. There are no Rips, Tears or Writing anywhere, Just a tiny Split to the Top right opening edge. The Green printing looks Fantastic against the Black background. Considering this sleeve is now 50 Years old (and is made from a very Flimsy paper) it has done Very well to Still be around today. I would grade this as Very Good ++!!!!

Cover/Sleeve Summary: Not seen often, this one is in Lovely condition with only Gentle clues of age, any blemishes mostly light. This classic cover (as described) should please many collectors.

Single Played For Grading: I play/grade ALL records I offer before submitting, I also play them in their entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end. I use a Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge and Linn Lingo, with my Linn system and Forest Totem Speakers. This system is guaranteed  to pick up any distortion or interference within the sound.

Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe that there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint; the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or even up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever offer. So I will only from Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus, plus)!!!!

Bid With Confidence: I take great care and pride with what I sell and offer a FULL money back guarantee, in the unlikely event of the buyer not agreeing with my description. As long as the item is repacked and returned to me in the same condition it was sent.

Postage: All of my records will be professionally packaged. I use Dependapack Vinyl Record Mailers that have locking tab closures with strong locking tab record wraps. I also use corrugated record stiffeners and extra strong tape marked with Handle With Care. This is to ensure your Valuable Record/s are protected whilst in transit. I will add a nominal fee of .40p to my postage and packaging for this service. Any Record valued at £100 or more I would prefer to send by Special Deliver/International Signed For.

On 14-Apr-18 at 17:25:12 BST, seller added the following information:

PLEASE NOTE: I received a message from a fellow Ebay member today claiming that this Factory Sample sticker is incorrect.

As I explained in my reply to them I have been collecting/buying records over a period of many years and have come across a few different variations of these stickers. The angles are cut differently and are in different shades of red.
I like you am a collector and bought/collected all of my items from what we hope to be reputable people.
However I'm not an absolute expert on these stickers and can only offer them in good faith.
I have put this message up just to make all current and potential bidders aware.
Should any current bidders wish to withdraw their bids please do so.
Should anyone purchase it and it's incorrect I will offer a 3 Month full money back guarantee (including postage) to prove I am selling these in good faith.
I could have ignored the message and let people carry on bidding but that would not have been the right thing to do.
ANY FURTHER CONSTRUCTIVE INFORMATION WOULD BE GRATEFULLY APPRECIATED.
