Description

Please bear with me whilst I try to explain why I consider this vinyl 45 to be of particular importance. "Please Please Me" was released in the UK on 11 January 1963 and was the Beatles first UK Number 1. It is well established that George Martin's original intention was for the Beatles to record a new Mitch Murray song "I Like It" which was ultimately a number 1 for Gerry and the Pacemakers. Due to John Lennon's strong will and George Martin hearing a bit of magic in the vocal mix when John & Paul's voices collided, he famously said after the recording session at Abbey Rd "Gentlemen, you have just recorded your first number one". He was of course absolutely correct.

OK, I hope that you are with me so far. I purchased this record five years ago from a German gentleman who confirmed to me that he had ultimately acquired it from EMI's German subsidiary "Odeon". It was confirmed that there had also been a demo copy of "From Me To You" in the Odeon collection, but no demo copy of "Love Me Do". This is supported by the fact that the German release of "Please Please Me" was a month later than the UK release in Feb 1962 and well after the UK release of "Love Me Do". "Please Please Me" was on the first German mainstream released Beatles single and "Love Me Do" was on the same disc being on the flip side of "Please Please Me".

The point I am driving at, is that I believe this actual single to be the very first Beatles vinyl single to be exported from the UK back to Germany. Germany was of course the country where the Beatles had honed their live performances and I believe that this makes this particular piece of vinyl very significant indeed.

This Demo is endorsed with the distinctive bright red "A" marking. The "B" side has another very high quality song "Ask Me Why" underpinning the astronomical development of the beatles songwriting expertise.

This disc has a Serial Number of 45-R4983 with a Matrix Number of 7XCE-17217. A stamper 1N and a tax code MPT can be seen in the closing grooves.

Beatles Demo's are always in very significant demand and are the jewel in the crown of any serious record collector. It is becoming very rare indeed to locate a (46 years old) Beatle's Demo with the vinyl being in excellent condition. Please note carefully the label and vinyl listing below;

Lables;

The lables are in good condition being clean and bright. The A side does have a telephone number, three crosses and McCartney- Lennon being underlined. There are additional pencil markings which could be carefully removed. The B side is clean with no writing or other detracting markings. The colours in the lables have not faded and retain their sharpness. Please note the close up photo makes the lable look much darker than it actualy is.

Vinyl;

The vinyl is Excellent, being clean and bright with no noticable scratches. I have play tested the record and it plays absolutely beautifully on both sides with hardly any background noise and no detraction from the quality of the music. The sound can be even further improved with careful cleaning and there are no skips, jumps, audible clicks or scratches.

Overall, I would grade the vinyl as (Ex). It will be very difficult to find a better sounding example of this rare demo, so don't miss this opportunity. It seems to me that demo copies of "Please Please Me" come up for sale only exceptionally rarely and less often than the more valuable "Love Me Do"

Please note my 100% feedback and bid with absolute confidence and a full return service is available.

Please note that the Top Pop sleeve is mint, but it is a faithful reproduction of the original sleeve.
