Description
Labels collectors know just how hard it is to find these. For those unfamiliar, these copies were printed with the Capitol logo so small that it nearly fits inside the orange part of the swirl, whereas the normal issues had the logo about half in and half out. In the shops for an extremely limited period of time, the Beatles’ 45 catalogue was quickly switched to their newly-founded Apple label, making these labels an instant collectors’ item. These haven’t been available for 50 years!
Here are half a dozen of them to start your collection, add to your existing one or drop the jaw this Christmas morning of the Beatles collector you never know what to get for them.
A Hard Day’s Night/I Should Have Known Better---You saw the lead photo right. This one has the extinct black lettering in the peripherals. Only a few titles were issued with this black print. Scranton pressing. Labels are gorgeous, vinyl is VG, with both sides covered in light scratches. See photos, then try to find other copies with black lettering in their peripherals.
I’ll Cry Instead/I’m Happy Just to Dance With You---Scranton pressing. Vinyl is VG, just like the above 45.
Yesterday/Act Naturally---Scranton pressing. Labels have a small amount of writing on them. Vinyl is VG to VG+. Far less light scratches than the previous two with a lot of original gloss.
We Can Work It Out/Day Tripper---Scranton pressing. Day Tripper label has a little wear, where someone who wasn’t me tried to erase a number written in pencil. Vinyl is VG.
Eleanor Rigby/Yellow Submarine---Scranton pressing. Both labels have red stars, whom somebody drew and colored in. “1966” also written on labels. I didn’t do that either. Vinyl is a beautiful very strong VG to solid VG+, both sides.
Paperback Writer/Rain---Scranton pressing. A small label blemish just under “The Beatles” on the A-side. Both sides of the vinyl are VG with lots of original gloss still intact.
BONUS 45’s---Winner will receive two bonus 45’s of the same label variation, both Scranton copies. There’s an extra copy of “Paperback Writer/Rain,” as well as a copy of “Ticket to Ride/Yes It Is,” both 45’s in good to VG- condition as a thank you for your high bid.
All sleeves are original issued company sleeves, although some have been written on.
(Please note that due to time constraints, I have had to stop play-testing my vinyl. However, I am happy to by request. As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
