If you have been searching an authentic and genuine investment grade butcher package featuring a beautiful 1966 original STEREO Capitol 3rd state (peeled)  version of the legendary butcher cover, look no further!

This comes complete with the removed trunk slick ,original Capitol inner sleeve, stereo record, and other information about the butcher cover . The back and spine are nice and the seams are decent. While this isn’t graded at near mint, this is an amazing  example  that will only cost you a fraction of that price. The winning bidder will receive this item packed and double boxed with all items protected in archival style protective sleeves. . Stereo editions are at least 4-5 times as rare as mono butcher covers and these rarely show up with the removed trunk slick. Also,  these are not cheap to come by anymore and often cost between $1200.00 and $2500.00 as second states depending on condition.  You will find many Beatles guides currently list a NM grade version at $2500.00.

The photos you see are of the exact item that is being offered for sale. The peeling was done by a professional outfit – the one who I bought it from. It comes with a COA certifying the history of the cover being purchased. Third states of displayable quality are getting harder to come by these days. This is the perfect butcher for those who want a quality stereo butcher package that won't cost you book value.

SPECIFIC CONDITION OF THIS ITEM IS AS FOLLOWS:

The front cover, as you can see from the photos, is very good. Factory glue lines and residue is minimal and professional touch up is also very minimal. A very displayable and frameable piece and better than just about anything you'll find in this price category for a stereo version. The removed trunk slick is included, slightly wrinkled with some wear and tear. There is one tiny nick on the mouth edge of the jacket about one inch up from the bottom, and a little paper loss and rounding of the top right corner which can be seen in the photo. This is a really nice stereo butcher....period.

The top seam has about three inches of beginning cracking in the middle and a very small crack at the very end. There are a few other small chips on the top seam but it is mostly complete and all of the beginning cracks have been professionally mitigated so that there will be no more spreading. The bottom seam is complete and nice with only a very small extreme end split hardly even worth mentioning. The spine, like the bottom seam, is really nice with all printing legible with only one tiny chip of paper on the "C" of stereophonic.  Again, nothing serious. I would not advise anyone placing a record and inner sleeve inside the jacket as doing this may cause possible future pressure and damage to seams and 40 year old paper. The back is pretty white for its age and has almost no ringwear. There is a light stain in the very bottom left hand corner edge and very minor toning and age marks and the same teenie chip that I previously mentioned from the spine. NO SIGHTLY TEARS, STICKERS WRITING OR OTHER MAJOR ISSUES.

This piece exceeds what you commonly see in this price range and is a great opportunity for someone who has been looking for a keeper copy of this legendary album in mono that will only increase in value as these are picked up.

COVER COMES WITH A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY SPECIFYING THAT IT IS INDEED A GENUINE 3RD STATE BUTCHER.ALSO INCLUDED IS A REPRODUCED COPY OF THE INFAMOUS RECALL LETTER SENT OUT IN 1966 BY CAPITOL RECORDS EXECUTIVE RON TEPPER, AND A COPY OF A COVER ARTICLE ON THE BUTCHER ALBUM THAT WAS RELEASED IN 1966 . This auction includes an original Capitol orange inner sleeve(some splitting) and Stereo record in fair/poor shape (sorry, this is what it came with)..

To further authenticate this package, you will notice a slight dark shadow to  the left of George’s head. That is consistent with the original butcher cover as shown attached photo from Bruce Spizer’s book “ The Beatles Story on Capitol Records”.

HISTORY AND TERMINOLOGY OF THE "BUTCHER COVER"

For those who don't know, this is the famous album that was banned by Capitol records prior to release in 1966 and then covered over with the more familiar trunk cover. The butcher scene was deemed too gruesome for the general public. As a result,  Capitol destroyed a great quantity of these but eventually found it more economical to cover the offending jacket with the more familiar trunk cover.

For terminology sake:

1st state--- a copy that was never covered over with a trunk cover. They are extremely rare and were practically never sold in stores and only used as promos for radio and sales managers.

2nd state--- a butcher cover with the trunk cover pasted over.

3rd state--- a 2nd state butcher cover that has had its trunk cover (hopefully professionally) removed.

If you are unfamiliar with the final artwork coordination of the Butcher Cover, it was put together for release by the head of Capitol Record's art department, George Osaki. Evidently, the textured paper as well as the grey background and large dot matrix of the butcher print were specifically selected to make the cover appear as if it were a painting on canvas. No other Beatles album or single utilized this unique type of paper or printing.

Thanks and Good Luck
