 READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles 12-Lot LP’s Mostly First Pressings, Several HTF Label Variations!

This lot was assembled with fellow labels collectors in mind.  It contains scarce labels, consignment labels, one grossly misstruck label, one set of hybrid labels and at least one unconfirmed label.

The treat for this lot is that the later titles from “Revolver” forward are the ones in better, resellable condition or else will make just great play-copies.

Songs, Pictures and Stories of the Fabulous Beatles

Vinyl--- Very strong VG, resellable copy.

Plates--- Audio Matrix, URJ, 2-11-64 on both sides.

Cover--- 2/3 cover VG. “Ringo Star” misprint in his bio.  Small amount of ballpoint.  Top seam split 3 inches.

Labels--- VG+. Some spindle marks.

Inner Sleeve--- Original Vee Jay inner sleeve is included.  Poor.

Meet the Beatles! STEREO First Pressing

Vinyl--- VG+/ STRONG VG. 

Plates--- A5/ A5.  Early plates!  Los Angeles pressing.

Cover--- VG- Spine damaged.  Otherwise VG.

Labels--- NM/ VG.  Side 2 label has name written in the rainbow. Otherwise NM.

Inner Sleeve--- Original blue/purple Capitol sleeve present.  Bottom seam split about 3 inches.

A Hard Day’s Night MONO First Pressing

Vinyl--- VG.  That doesn’t mean trashed, it means that there is plenty of new gloss left with a moderate amount of light scratches, none of which you can feel.  VG means very good, not dumpster fodder.

Plates--- 1C/ 1H

Cover--- VG. Moderate dirtwear. Ticker tape affixed to front cover.

Labels--- VG+. Small Magic Marker on side 1 label. “I Cry Instead.”

Inner Sleeve--- Generic white, one seam separated completely.

RIAA: N/A.

Beatles ’65 MONO First Pressing RCA Consignment

Vinyl--- Strong VG. That doesn’t mean trashed, it means that there is plenty of new gloss left with a moderate amount of light scratches, none of which you can feel.  VG means very good, not dumpster fodder.

Plates--- P15/ T16.  Machine-stamped letter “R” in the dead wax.  This is an RCA pressing.

Cover--- VG-

Labels--- VG. Name on Side 2.  Scranton labels.  Thick concentric groove on the label, closer to the outer edge is RCA’s lathe.

Inner Sleeve--- Original olive green Capitol sleeve is present.  Bottom seam is split 2 inches.

Help! STEREO First Pressing Decca Consignment

A quick word: Stereo copies of consigned Beatles LP’s are extremely unusual to find.  By far, the consigned plants were meant to help with meeting the needs of the more commonly sold mono copies, which at that time, outsold stereo copies 3 to 1.  Stereophonic records had only been on the market since 1958, and they cost a dollar more, which in 1965, was a significant increase in price.

Additionally, although this copy has the songwriting credits listed beneath the title, “The Bitter End,” there have been no consigned stereo copies from Decca verified to exist with the song credits missing, making this copy the first Decca stereo pressing.

In 48 years of collecting and researching, this is the only copy I’ve ever seen.  Too bad it’s in lousy condition.

Vinyl--- Poor

Plates--- W4P/ X5P

Cover--- Poor

Labels--- VG. Light wear around the periphery.  Scranton second pressing labels.  Concentric groove is very close to the playhole. Label is flat against the vinyl, making this the Decca pressing plant’s lathe.

Inner Sleeve--- Original olive green Capitol sleeve is present.  Bottom and side seams split 1 or 2 inches.

Rubber Soul MONO First Pressing Los Angeles/RCA Consignment Alternate Mixes!

Vinyl--- VG. That doesn’t mean trashed, it means that there is plenty of new gloss left with a moderate amount of light scratches, none of which you can feel.  VG means very good, not dumpster fodder.

Plates--- F15/ F13. Very interesting plates. Both dead wax areas retain both the hand-etched letters, “RCA,” as well as the asterisk from Los Angeles.  This means that LA plates were shipped directly to the RCA plant, as opposed to LA creating new plates for them, thereby removing a generation of sound quality.  Not unheard of, but certainly a more unusual configuration to find.

Cover--- VG-.

Labels--- VG+. Los Angeles-printed labels.  First pressing labels omit “The Beatles” below the album title. Side 1 label is double-struck. See photo.  Thick concentric groove on the label, closer to the outer edge is RCA’s lathe.

Inner Sleeve--- Original olive green Capitol sleeve is present.  Bottom and side seams split 1 or 2 inches.

Revolver MONO First Pressing Alternate Mixes NICE!

Vinyl--- VG+ easy.  85% original shine, light angel hairs.

Plates--- F3/ F1.  Scranton pressing.

Cover--- Nice VG. Structurally solid, no split seams.  General wear since 1966 is minimal to the front cover, moderate wear to the back.

Labels--- NM gorgeous labels.

Inner Sleeve--- Original yellow Capitol inner sleeve is present and in very nice condition. Flat sleeve, no split seams.

RIAA: None.

Magical Mystery Tour STEREO First Pressing Error Completely Misfired Side 2 Label

Vinyl--- VG+/ VG.  Very nice copy with light scratches on both sides, none of which you can feel with the fingertip.

Plates--- B6/ B8.  Jacksonville copy.

Cover--- VG.  Book is detached.  So are my retinas, so it’s perfectly legible.

Labels--- NM/ Misstruck.  Side 1 label actually is mildly misseated.  But the Side 2 label is so misseated that it fully extends into the dead wax.  Playhole cuts squarely into the text on the label.  Very cool error pressing!  See photo.

Inner Sleeve--- Generic white, split seams.

RIAA: N/A.

Sgt. Pepper MONO Second Pressing Alternate Mixes!

Vinyl--- Gorgeous VG+. Inexperienced graders would call it VG++.

Plates--- G5/ F1.  Scranton pressing.

Cover--- VG

Labels--- NM. No spindle marks! Second pressing label, lists second song as “With a Little Help From My Friends.”

Inner Sleeve--- Generic white, no splits.  Gradient red sleeve is missing, as is the insert.   =:0(

RIAA: N/A

Abbey Road First Pressing Error Hybrid Labels!

Vinyl--- Very Strong VG+. Very close to VG++, just under.

Plates--- F7/ F40.  Scranton pressing.

Cover--- VG

Labels--- VG+. Spindle marks, both sides, small piece of paper missing on Side 1.  See photo.

Side 1 label is the in-house Scranton label with the thin font.  Much scarcer than the more familiar thick font.

Side 2 label has the Capitol logo, but with the thicker font.  Label lists “Her Majesty.”  See photos for the different label styles on this one copy.

Inner Sleeve--- Generic white, no die-cut holes for the labels.

RIAA: N/A

Let It Be First Pressing Full Maggie Mae Songwriting Credits

Vinyl--- VG+ both sides.

Plates--- Configured differently than the rest of the Beatles’ catalogue, plates are 14 #3/ 14 #5.  Scranton pressing, “Bell Sound” and Phil and Ronnie in the dead wax, both sides.  Completely legit pressing.

Cover--- VG

Labels--- NM, both sides.  Has the full credits of “Maggie Mae” with all the band members’ names after the P.D. (public domain) initials.  By far, most of these copies come from the Jacksonville plant.  A smaller number came from Scranton, from which this copy is.

Inner Sleeve--- Generic white.

RIAA: N/A.

The Beatles Again First Pressing RARE GHOST CAPITOL LABEL, SIDE 2

Vinyl--- VG. That doesn’t mean trashed, it means that there is plenty of new gloss left with a moderate amount of light scratches, none of which you can feel.  VG means very good, not dumpster fodder.

Plates--- Z18/ Z15.  Jacksonville pressing, Scranton labels.

Cover--- VG

Labels--- EX/ NM.  Side 1 concentric groove was cut so deeply that it sliced a white ring into the label.

Side 2 has the incredibly hard to find Ghost Capitol logo at the 5 o’clock position.  The “Subsidiary of…” text is just barely visible in the perimeter of the label, but the Capitol logo is slightly more prominent.  See photo. 

Keeping in mind that the rare version of this album with the “Subsidiary of…” text and Capitol logo occurs on copies of the renamed “Hey Jude” album, finding the Ghost Capitol image on “The Beatles Again” label is twice the rarity.

Inner Sleeve--- Generic white

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
