Description

Wonderful, original 45 record by the Beach Boys of "Surfin" on Candix Records. As verifyed through several books, Candix 331 is the true 1st pressing of this record, and not 301. "Surfermoon.comCandix" states "Candix had been releasing singles since the mid-late 50s, thus 331 was the first release of "Surfin'" (proof - The Frogmens top 40 hit "Underwater", released in April 1961 was Candix 314) in November 1961 (dated by the Delta numbers). Apparently, "Surfin" sold well, but when the Dix brothers (the owners of Candix and they are still alive) went to the pressing plant for more, they were told to pay their bills, so to keep the demand for the single supplied, they went to another pressing plant and, because the original plant had all the labels, came up with the X name and listed it as 301. When the bill was paid and they could go back to using Candix, the plant continued the number of 301, hence the third release, in January 1962, was on Candix 301. So, the releases were: 11/61 - Candix 331 12/61 - X 301 1/62 - Candix 301 As far as condition, this is quite nice. The labels do not have the heavy wring wear that is usually found on them, and are both graded at near mint8. Using a 100 watt bulb to grade by, the vinyl is a nice VG+ on 'A' side and VG on the 'B" side, with many light marks. The sound quality is clear and crisp with some surface noise. Questions??
