ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome and
extraordinarily rare LP from Epic (LC 3081, US pressing, yellow radial label,
mono) features what is arguably among the rarest of the albums for which the
great Andy Warhol executed the cover art. In addition, unlike some of the other
jackets graced by his work, this particular one even bears the clear attribution
"Warhol" in the lower-right corner. This album was issued in
1956 as part of the label's Mozart Jubilee series and is highly elusive. It
contains four Mozart Wind Divertimentos with the Wind Instrument Ensemble of
the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the eminent Mozart conductor
and scholar Bernard Paumgartner. The exact contents are as
follows, all works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Divertimento
No. 12 in E-flat Major K. 252 Divertimento
No. 16 in E-flat Major K. 289 Divertimento
No. 13 in F Major K. 253 Divertimento
No. 14 in B-flat Major K. 270 All four works are brought
off with an Authentic Viennese charm and spirited vitality, and the sound is
well-balanced and of Philips' top drawer. The reverse side of the
jacket carries erudite and eloquent liner notes by Eugene Bruck, printed in
English only. CONDITION – PLEASE READ
VERY CAREFULLY: The gradations of condition
I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor. The condition of the jacket
is VERY GOOD+. There is discoloration along the spine, a bit of scuffing to the
lower front of the jacket, and some writing to the rear panel. However, there
are no seamsplits, bends, or other defects. The fine laminate finish is
perfectly intact and the album remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, a handsome
collector's copy, suitable for framing.
The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. Though
there is light surface noise, in general the playback remains quite fine.
However, if you must have a flawless or near-MINT surfaces, then please do
not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.
