Description

This is Meat Loaf's 1977 long-playing record album titled "Bat Out of Hell." Immediately upon its release in 1977, we realized that it was special. The combination of Meat Loaf's big, powerful voice, Jim Steinman's superior (conspicuously so) lyrics, and Todd Rundgren's production and musicianship resulted in a well-conceived, sensational album. The album includes the songs "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights," "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth," and "Bat Out of Hell," among others. On "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights," Ellen Foley provides vocals, Scooter Rizzuto provides the baseball play-by-play, and Jim Steinman is credited with . . . "lascivious effects!" The contribution of Todd Rundgren (besides production, engineering, and mixing) includes guitars, keyboards, percussion, background vocals, and "motorcycle guitar!" The classic cover, illustrated by Richard Corben, reminds me of the vans that we used to see in the 1970s, with airbrushed paintings on the panels. The lyrics to the songs are printed on the record sleeve. Sadly, Meat Loaf died in 2022 and Jim Steinman in 2021.
