Bach Cello Suites Janos Starker Mercury Living Presence SR3
On this (deservedly) famous recording, Janos Starker plays the complete Bach “Suites for unaccompanied Cello”. A U.S. stereo pressing on the Mercury Living Presence Label (SR3-9016), the labels are plum with silver lettering and a groove. There is a pressing fault on the second track of sides three and four with a bubble that causes six and seven loud clicks respectively. Although both play through, it would not be recommended to do so with delicate stylii! Apart from a minor surface scuff on side three, the records are of excellent appearance and they play with a minimum of surface noise. The performances are superb and the recording is stunning and fully deserves it’s reputation. The box has a small tear on the front with minor wear along the edges and the botton right-hand corner is split. The booklet has a couple of small stains, some creases and a name and address stamped on the front.
