Composed of three distinct movements, In The Mist sees neo-classical composer Harold Budd writing for string quartets in addition to himself. Tracks 1-5, "The Whispers" see a suite of typically tone-bending minimalist piano compositions, while Tracks 6-8, "The Gun Fighters" see him adding abstract electronics to some dramatic compositions. Tracks 9-13 see his moody compositions for string quartet - arguably the most emotionally affecting of the album, and some of the best of his extraordinary career.
