Though famous as a jazz cornetist, Bix Beiderbecke was also an exceptional pianist and composer. Unfortunately, he made only one solo piano record: his own "In a Mist" for the OKeh label in late 1927. His lively, rhythmic, and completely entrancing performance has since become one of the most celebrated jazz piano recordings of the 1920s. Towards the end of his life, Beiderbecke published three additional piano solos: "Candlelights," "Flashes," and "In the Dark," but he never had a chance to record them. Collectively, the four pieces reveal Beiderbecke's keen interest in the harmonies of such Impressionist composers as Ravel and Debussy infused with syncopated jazz rhythms. Beiderbecke's four piano solos have rarely been recorded as a complete set.

Eighty years after their composition, this set marks the first time all four solos have been issued as a collection in the 78rpm format. Beautifully recorded in stereo on a Steinway Model C grand piano, Wright's performances remain faithful to the published scores prepared by Bill Challis, while conveying the wistful lyricism of Beiderbecke's haunting melodies. This is a first-class production all around - beautiful graphics, packaging, labels and performances!

I will play grade on certain items only - it is just impossible for me to play grade everything I put on EBAY. MINT means factory sealed, never opened or played. NM is opened but in visually brand new, out-of-the-packaging clean condition. NM- is not NM! Its a grade above VG++ and below Near Mint - it does not imply perfect. In my terminology Scratches are feeler type and Scuffs are just cosmetic and usually inaudible.
