Description

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
CIRCUS SONG

Here’s a rare one from very early in the Bruce Springsteen story. Columbia was determinted to break this new act, and they had already spun out his song “Blinded By The Light” (his debut 45) to the members of their record club who received the promotional Ep called PLAYBACK.

So, on the heels of that single they rolled out another song – this time, a live track recorded at one of his live dates at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles, on May 1, 1973. The tune was a work in progress, and “Circus Song” would eventually become "Wild Billy's Circus Story", with different lyrics. This little EP is the only place it was ever officially released, and it’s not appeared on any CD or release since – which is kind of odd considering the many other rare tracks that have surfaced.

This was Playback #52
