Description
THIRTY EIGHT years ago, in 1984, British synthpop group Bronski Beat released their 80s masterpiece 'Age of Consent'. It introduced the world to the talents of Jimmy Somerville, Steve Bronski, and Larry Steinbachek. (RIP Steve and Larry, the synthpop music world misses you both.) Jimmy Somerville has that incredible falsetto singing voice, and is instantly recognizable. He left Bronski Beat in 1985, and joined The Communards. After that band, he went solo, and never looked back! You can see and hear him in a duet with Soft Cell's Marc Almond, (a remake of the vintage Donna Summer track "I Feel Love"), as well as hear him on the Fine Young Canibal's remake of the Elvis smash hit "Suspicious Minds" doing those incredible background vocals!
Jimmy Somerville re-released Bronski Beat's biggest hit a little over thirty one years ago, in 1991. It was issued on a special CD single, and its sounds great! They didn't change much; if anything, it just got cleaned up. The CD single also contains the Boilerhouse Mix of "To Love Somebody", and the Jalepeno Mix of "There's More to Love Than Boy Meets Girl". Another CD maxi-single of that important 80s classic came out in '94. This time, the vocal duties are shared by Steve Bronski, Jimmy Somerville's replacement John Foster, and David Newton Howard.
Today's really good deal is a new copy of that synthpop classic 'Age of Consent', and on a modern day reissue picture disc LP! I purchased this new, but it was never sealed. I never played it, as I never play specialty vinyl, such as colored vinyl and picture discs. It comes in its original die-cut sleeve. And I'll also throw in the two CD singles, as well! (See pics for CD singles' track listings.) A picture disc LP vinyl record, AND two CD singles with various mixes and bonus tracks? It just doesn't get much better than that!
