Before dominating the metal world and turning thrash into a global phenomenon, Slayer were yet another young group of friends with tonnes of aspiration and not much money.

Shift work and a small loan from guitarist Kerry King's father were what would finally lead to the eventual Great 4 alumni being able to record their now iconic debut, 'Show No Mercy.'

Somewhat maligned upon initial release for its lo-fi production, the razor sharp riffage and animated performance from frontman Tom Arya couldn't be ignored, with the album becoming a genre staple as well as laying the groundwork for subsequent metallic masterpieces, 'Reign In Blood', 'South Of Heaven' and 'Seasons In The Abyss'.

Retro stylings and a slight decrease in the edgy darkness of latter material aside, classics like 'The Antichrist' and 'Black Magic' are proof positive of Slayer's knack for thrash metal classics before they could even afford to tour, let alone become one of the most legendary acts of their era.
