Excellent 1975 LP from the sought-after Bosworth Backgrounds series. A mixture of styles here, including jazz (ie authentic, old school small jazz group stuff, also some more 'trad' tracks); mellow Latin-inflected easy listening; and some ultra-cool, raw-sounding funk/jazz/bluesy workouts.

Composers include Howard Lucraft (American jazz bandleader and composer who has also had a successful parallel career as a jazz journalist and writer); Grover Mitchell (another jazzer - worked with Duke Ellington and Count Basie); Red Callender, Harold Jones and Sam Most (more distinguished jazzmen); Frank Marocco (jazz accordionist who appeared on the Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds' album amongst others).

Noteworthy tracks include:

Expressway - nice, solid, busy jazz track.

Rio Romance - delightfully lilting Latin samba-flavoured easy listening; beautiful, uplifting flute work.

Miz Cool - jazzy, slow, sultry; beautiful flute again.

Chant Afrique - starts with light, jingling percussion in a steady 6/8 time; builds gradually to great effect .. a simple riff over the churning rhythm, but with an overall jazzy flavour; nice sax solo, moody organ chords and rumbling horns; excellent.

Mysterioso Melancholia - sultry, jazzy exotica/lounge; nice flute again .. also an odd, reverby, wobbly top line sound picking out unsettling single notes (pedal steel guitar?).

Rock Funk - great, loose-feeling, shuffling funky beat on this one; squelchy synth and bass guitar mesh on the bass line, overlaid by flute, muted trumpet, wah wah, sax etc. .. brilliant sleazy, funky, jazzy track.

Hula Rock - fantastic, slow, dirty, funky beat with congas and rumbling keyboard/bass line; also features that weird, reverby pedal steel guitar again; amazing track.

Love's Longing - beautiful solo flute at the start here; track is ultra-mellow, slightly melancholic jazzy bossa nova; lovely.

Merry-Go-Round - jazzy, slowish 6/8, mellow; fantastic solo flute again.

Weirdo - doodling, jazz-flavoured suspense/drama.

Peaceful - lazy, mellow, Latin styled jazz; wonderful flute.
