Arriving a near decade after 2006's Murder 4 Hire, the Manslaughter LP would usher in the resurgent return of Ice-T fronted rap metal icons Body Count, who have continued their new lease on life with the subsequent follow ups; Bloodlust released in 2017, and the most recent Carnivore which dropped in 2020. Marking the studio return of sampler Sean E Sean who rejoined the group in 2008, as well as the first project to feature rhythm guitarist Juan of the Dead and drummer Ill Will, the album proved that calmness doesn't always come with age, or from starring in Law & Order. With pummeling grooves, crisp production (courtesy of the incomparable Will Putney) and a reliably entertaining character in Ice-T, it's hard not to feel oneself teleported back to the 90s from the moment the absurdly overkill 'Talk Shit, Get Shot' kicks into full swing. Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed also makes a dynamite appearance on the standout banger 'Pop Bubble'. For those who were surprised that Body Count were even still operating at full capacity, 2014's Manslaughter silenced all doubters with one banger after the next.
