NOTE: Re Shipping 78 RPM Records
The Giant would like for 78 rpm records to arrive intact. The first step is to place the record in some type of protective sleeve, if available. If not available The Giant uses paper towels to separate the records from the bubble wrap and cardboard. It is important that the playing surfaces of the record not touch the cardboard. During shipping, the record may rub the cardboard, scuffing or scratching the playing surface. The record will be removed from the sleeve (if available) in order to protect the sleeve from damage during shipment.
Since 78 rpm records are very brittle, they won't survive any bending or uneven pressure. To brace the record so that it won't be bent in shipping, The Giant makes a "record sandwich". For the base of the "record sandwich", two cardboard squares with the corrugations running in opposite directions (for added strength), and sheet of bubble wrap. Then a record is placed on the base. Finally, placing a sheet of bubble wrap and two more cardboard squares on top, again with the corrugations running in opposite directions. The "record sandwich" is then placed in an LP mailer with the mailer corrugation running in the opposite direction as the first cardboard piece and taped for shipment.
Canada Post uses weight in grams (454 grams = 1 pound). The weight of this packaging with record is approximately 750 grams, placing the shipping costs in the 2nd rate available being between 500 and 1000 grams. By removing the cardboard to lower the weight (first shipping rate of 0 to 499 grams) will reduce the shipping costs but will significantly increase the risk of the 78 rpm record arriving damaged.
Note an LP mailer weighs (all weights approximate) 120 grams, a 78 rpm record weighs 200 grams, that leaves 179 grams for packing at the lowest shipping rate.

Any additional packaging e.g. double box with/out styrofoam will add substantially to the shipping costs weighing in at over 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds). For international buyers this will increase postage by $20.00 plus depending on destination. For US buyers the additional weight will add $10.00 plus depending on destination.
