Description

This auction is for a copy of Bob Marley & The Wailers' 45rpm 7"
"Rastaman Live Up" b/w
"version - which is titled Don't Give Up and credited to The Wailers"
Tuff Gong International, no #, probably 1978.

You know, I have researched and researched this record, even going so far as to 'phone Tuff Gong in Jamaica in an attempt to find out information about this 7" 45rpm record. Everything has lead to dead end after dead end; so it's time to list it.
Here's what I know about this record:
* "Rastaman Live Up" can be found on 1978s "Confrontation" album.
* Of all the various Tuff Gong logos I've ever seen on 45s, this is the only instance of this logo I've ever come across.
* Coincidentally or incidentally, this is now Tuff Gong's stock logo, with the exception of the 'hands clasped around wrists' icon in the middle of the star. That icon has now been replaced with a head-and-shoulder portrait or photo of Mr. Marley.
* According to the charming female voice I spoke with in the record area of the Tuff Gong store, this record is available, as a reissue or re-release of course, with the labels bearing the above-mentioned logo.

And that's it! In 30 seconds or less you now know as much as I do from two months of on/off searching for information about this 45. Anyone having more information please feel free to email, and I will add it to this auction's description, thanks.

Vinyl = G.
Maybe I'm being a little harsh with this grade, but how else do you grade a record that still has alot of gloss to the vinyl while also containing too many scratches to count? No, those are not all feelable scratches, but there are enough feelies that I don't believe I would be able to give an accurate count. Most are surface scratches. It appears the version side received alot more play than the A-side. There's also a weird little "bump/dip" impression on one radius of the record. To me it looks like the kind of artifact that could be caused by the record having been jammed un-sleeved into an over-stuffed backpack, and one radius of the record ended up jammed tight against something rounded.. which in turn caused a shallow impression on one side and a slight bump on the other.

What I find absolutely and incredibly amazing is the record plays without sticks or skips and doesn't sound nearly as bad as it looks, when played with a MONO needle.
PLEASE NOTE the mono playback employed when I screened this record! I'm pretty sure I really wouldn't want to listen to this record through a stereo system! If you DO NOT have the equipment to play this record back in MONO, unless you just want the record to complete a run or whatever reason(s) other than playback, then please do not bid for it.. because if you win this record and attempt to listen to it through a stereo rig, you will be unhappy with your listening experience! Forewarned, foretold, end of story!

Is this record rare?? You tell me, ok. Based on everything I haven't been able to find out about it, including not being able to find another copy of it nor any other Tuff Gong record bearing this logo, I'd have to say: Yeah, it is rare!!
However, as also stated, anyone having information about this record and this Tuff Gong logo is more than welcome to contact us, and I will add new information to this auction's description.
