This was better than I expected. I already knew the incredible versions of "Psycho" and "Louie Louie", which really belong to the fastest, dirtiest pieces of 1960s punk I ever heard. But then, can they keep up with that standard?

Well, quite -- none of the tracks hear come near to the primal wildness of these two tracks, but some are pretty close ("Hey Joe", "No Friend of Mine"). But that's not necessarily bad, because what this comp shows is that the Swamp Rats were pretty adventurous and original... well, not really original (all but two of the songs are covers), but they weren't afraid of recording slower ballads... some of which don't work at all, but actually -- as a punkrocker with a good reputation, I'm afraid to say that --, my favourite song is indeed one of these slow ballads, namely "I'm Going Home", a truly beautiful and moving lament of a youth disillusioned by society, with great lyrics and vocals, that builds up to a great, grooving chorus... I immediately fell in love with that song!
