BOB DYLAN – THE WORLD OF FOLK MUSIC Starring Oscar Brand – Show #96 – Produced by the Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare – Social Security Administration – Side 2 features a similar program with THE NEW CHRISTY MINSTRELS (Show #97) – Warner Bros. XGPB-508. Disc Side 1 with Bob Dylan is VG+; Disc Side 2 with The New Christy Minstrels is borderline VG/VG-; Both sides feature handwritten notation on the label (see photo) – Dylan Side says “12/17/63 – JCR” – Christy Minstrels Side says “1/7/64 – JCR.” Sleeve is generic white and is NM.

Originally pressed for Radio Station Airplay Only and Never Commercially Released, these programs were issued to promote the Social Security Administration. This program, recorded in March, 1963, and broadcast in May of 1963, features Dylan performing “Girl From The North Country,” which he, at this early date calls “North Country Girl,” in addition to “Only A Hobo.” These performances are alternate takes to the master versions found on Freewheelin’ (Columbia) and The Broadside Ballads (Folkways). These two songs were recorded at WNBC Studios, New York, March 1963 specially for the Oscar Brand radio show. Bob’s spoken commentary here, in response to questions from Oscar Brand, and as introductory comments to the songs, appear nowhere else. Additionally, “Only A Hobo” is an alternate version of the out-take version that was recorded for The Times They Are A-Changin’ (Columbia). THIS IS NOT YOUR GARDEN VARIETY BOB DYLAN COLLECTIBLE.
