BOB DYLAN 3 LP SET ' MASTERPIECES ' - A 1978 AUSTRALIAN COMPILATION CBS S3BP 220502. THIS SET WAS ONLY ISSUED ONLY IN JAPAN, AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND. THERE ARE SIX SCARCE / RARE TRACKS:
1) Tomorrow Is A Long Time - live performance from New York Town Hall, 12 Apr 1963 with fade out (the version on Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol.2(USA)/More Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits (UK) is segued into When I Paint My Masterpiece)
2) Mixed Up Confusion, 1962 out-take from The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, recorded at Columbia Studios, New York, 1 Nov 1962 (take 10), andoverdubbed with different backing, probably on 8 Dec 1964. It is therefore not Bob's first single as expected, but the alternate take without the first harmonica solo from the Japanese promo LP Mr. D's Collection # 1 and promo EP, Mr. D's Collection #2 . As on those other releases, it is a mono mix of the overdub take.
3) Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues live at Liverpool, May 1966, B-side of 7" I Want You single, mono as originally recorded.This live version was never released on a regular Columbia album, is also on the Japanese promo LP Mr. D's Collection #1, the Japanese promo EP Mr. D's Collection #2, the Japanese Mr. D's Collection #3 promo CD, the Japanese Dylan Ga Rock promo 2CD set and the Capitol/EMI boxed set The Band: A Musical History
4) Spanish Is The Loving Tongue - B-side of 1971 Watching The River Flow single , not version from 1973 Dylan album. This track is in mono, although it's listed as stereo on the Australian Side 3 record label. This take is also on the Japanese promo LP Mr. D's Collection #1.
5) George Jackson ("Big Band" Version), Nov 1971 from single. It is on the Nov 1972 Japanese compilation Bob Dylan: Gift Pack '73 , on the Japanese limited release items Mr. D's Collection #1(LP), #2 (EP) and #3 (CD) . It is also on the 2CD Japanese compilation Dylan Ga Rock(1993 release only, not the 2010 release).
6) Rita May - Desire out-take, Jul 1975, released on singles Nov 1976/Jan 1977, it is also on two limited edition Japanese CD releases, Mr. D's Collection #3 and Dylan Ga Rock , and appeared on the Sony Music Bob Dylan Custom Mix CD web-site. Apr 2003. It was also one of the 42 rarities included for download with the Aug 2006 Apple iTunes Bob Dylan Collection. It is now also released on the 2010 version of Dylan Ga Rock.All the MONO tracks are listed as stereo on this album, despite being MONO. THERE WERE 4 LABEL VARIANTS OF THIS RELEASE IN AUSTRALIA, WITH LAYOUT AND TEXT CHANGES. A RARE ITEM IN MINT CONDITION. VINYL AS NEW, SLEEVE HAS SOME CREASING AND TWO SMALL BOTTOM EDGE SPLITS. ORIGINAL SHAPED LINERS.
