Here it is, ladies and gentlemen: The emperor of all singer-songwriters albums, Bob Dylan's very finest hour and one of two or three most important, creative, subversive, ingenuous, inspired and mind-intriguing albums ever - EVER - recorded. Just listening to the cascading rhymes of Bob Dylan's surreal poetry over jazzy, bluesy, folksy and rocking instrumental backing (provided courtesy of Al Kooper, The Band and some of the finest studio musicians of the day) makes our heart skip a few beats. Track listing? Do you really need one? And, oh…one more thing…this is the brutally rare WHITE LABEL PROMO pressing – AND MONO, to boot -- THE ONLY legitimate way to listen to this classic album. Compared to mono, stereo mix sounds like a disgrace. Mixes are considerably more different, much more raw, direct and vital than on the common, stereo release. Miss it and you might have to spend another few years searching for another copy.

For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye, Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice (of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita" fame), Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton (who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan's first album), Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). For more details, see: "Critics Choice: Top-200 albums" compiled by Paul Gambaccini, Omnibus Press, Library of Congress Catalog No.7855565 (or click here for the complete album listing)

THE WHITE LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

THIS IS A NO-RESERVE AUCTION!

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            THE CONDITION OF FOUR INDIVIDUAL SIDES VARIES FROM VERY GOOD MINUS (VG-) TO VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) BUT, OVERALL, THE VINYL IS IN DECENT, VERY GOOD (VG) CONDITION. CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in clean, playable condition. There are a surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters) and a few others that might cause short periods of pops and clicks, specially during the low, quiet passages.

(b)            This album is presented here mostly for its historical value and as a very rare item, which can be exceedingly difficult to find in any other condition

(c)             The records are apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

(e)             The record is pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

(f)              White Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 500:1.

(g)            In addition, Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 10:1.

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD- / very good minus / (VG-).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some visible ring wear; On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 5.

-         Cover has some tiny, faint, barely visible writing on its front side (small initials in blue ballpoint pen on front side)

-         Cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered throughout (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)

-         Cover has a partially split spine (between 1 and 2 inches / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-         Cover has all four corners slightly worn / frayed / bent (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease) in one of the corners and a few tiny ones along the seams.

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on the spine.

-         Cover has a small peel-off mark (on the promo timing strip, NOT on the cover itself), probably from the careless removal of the price sticker.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing, apparently from aging.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No stamps

-         No mold or mildew spots

-         No stickers or labels

-         No water damage

-         No warping

-         No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-         No glue traces or wax residue.

-         No bar codes

-         No RIAA stamps or stickers.
