Description
BOB DESPER
New Sounds LP
backsotry: not two weeks after my first introduction to this LP i was rummaging around at a thrift store here in portland or and B-I-N-G-O there it was right in the middle of a huge pile o herb alpert and the firestone christmas LP's. i guess if you're seeing this auction you know the score. i've copied the acid archives description below.
This copy is still in the original shrink wrap. there are two price stickers on said shrink. one is the $.50 price tag which i got 25% off of when i purchased it, and the second is the orignal $1.98 price tag from where it was originally retailed (lucky buyer gets the name of said retail outlet and if they are a good enough detective might be able to track down proprietors of said establishment and possibly more or another copy of bob's LP)...so..the condition of the cover is what i'd call near mint (nm)...only because the opening slot is slightly bowed (hard to describe..it's just slightly more open than you'd think it would be...i have a friend with another copy of this album and his has the same bowing at the opening. i think it must not be a coincidence. the vinyl is VG-. there are several cross groove light scratches on side two...there is one song on side two "Liberty" where my lighter (non adjustable) tracking (cheap piece of sh*t i have in my bedroom) turntable repeat skips (my girlfriend just said to tell you all to "put a penny on it!").. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ON MY PRIMARY TECHNICS TURNTABLE (with tracking at 0.5 and anti-skate at 2 which are the settings that have been there since day one..) there is surface noise throughout and some pops here and there (mind you, i've heard the pressing is noisy and you really have to crank it to get to the meat of the recording. i've only heard it at maximum volume) nothing is so distracting as to take away from bobs singing and guitar playing. i am only accepting paypal for this auction. i will not accept a return. i've been very honest/even conservative in the grading. winning bidder can contact me regarding insurance or registration. there will be an extra charge for these services.

Read this------ From the Acid Archives website:
The Pacific Northwest is a dark, dank place, with a suicide rate higher than Keith Richards on a four day binge. Even their most articulate native son, Kurt Cobain, drowned in the sea of despair and offed himself. And what's the cause of this environmental depression??? It may be the constant grey skies and rain, it may be the extremely high runaway and homeless rate or it just may very well be the music of Bob Desper. Bob recorded his "New Sounds" LP in one take at the local Rose City Sound studios. Just him, his acoustic guitar and an amazing insight to the dark side of the human psyche. So dark in fact, that only a blind man can see it. Bob is that man, and on this LP he taps into a place that very few people have visited. His voice is quiet with an edge sharper than a Ginzu knife. His lyrics reflect a lonely man who recognizes the shortcomings of human kind. This LP gives me goosebumps each and every time I play it. Side one starts off with "Darkness Is Like A Shadow". A spooky, echoey tune where Bob introduces a topic that becomes a re-occurring theme throughout the entire LP, the fact that people with eyesight are blind to the things that are truly important in life. "It's Too Late" and "Lonely Man" follow and continue the introspective soul search, all accompanied by Bob's extraordinary guitar playing. The fourth and last cut on side one is "To A Friend Of Mine". This is where I usually start thinking about going into the bathroom and slitting my wrist with a razor blade just to prove to Bob that I could begin to understand what true suffering is. This 15+ minute journey is, in my opinion, the most flawless chunk of downer/loner folk music ever recorded. Side two is good, but pales in comparison to it's flip side. Songs are "Let It Shine For You", "Don't You Cry For Me", "Liberty" and "Time Is Almost Over".....
