Here’s a strange title, being called "Blood Sweat & Tears # 5", when in actuality it is from the bands SECOND (highly famed) album concert tour.

Absolutely one of the rarest Trade Mark of Quality underground LPs EVER released!!!

SELDOM was seen even upon its September 1971 release! Perhaps because hardly anyone bought it, back then when it was more of a commercial success sound and the mainstream being totally unaware of the albums existence.

TOTALLY different recordings / performances of their mighty fine #2 LP featuring the powerhouse band that remains with such acclaim.

Like most of the West Coast colored vinyl undergrounds of the era, this was pressed at Lewis Records, the same plant that pressed Fantasy Records (Creedence Clearwater Revival's pressing plant.)

The difference between Blood, Sweat & Tears great first LP and the group's preceding (2nd) long-player is the difference between a monumental seller and a record that was "merely" a huge critical success.

After Al Kooper formed the band in the late '60s -- Blood, Sweat & Tears reconstructed themselves, unceremoniously booting out their leader and added four newcomers, including singer David Clayton-Thomas. The band had no idea in the world they had struck magic, even IF the band had certain similarities to the original band. They still focused their musical direction in a mixture of classical, jazz, and rock elements with interplay between the arrangements and the keyboards still occurring.

The difference was the second BS&T, guided under the aegis of producer James William Guercio, and fronted by Clayton-Thomas on vocals,was a far more commercial appealing formula. Not only did the album contain three songs that neared the top of the charts as singles -- "Happy," "Spinning Wheel," and "And When I Die" -- but the whole album, including an arrangement of "God Bless the Child" and the radical rewrite of Traffic's "Smiling Phases," was wonderfully accessible. It was a repertoire to build a career on, and Blood, Sweat & Tears did exactly that, although they never came close to equaling the album.
