Philadelphia's soul studios in the early 70s were a world of their own and Blue Magic were among the few groups who could move through that landscape with genuine ease. These recordings capture the moment when their blend of falsetto harmonies and orchestral arrangements settled into something unmistakable. 'Sideshow' opens in a haze of strings before the vocal steps in with real poise while 'Look Me Up' and 'Stop To Start' push towards the proto-disco sound emerging around Sigma's musicians. 'What's Come Over Me' and 'Spell' lean into softer corners, the rhythm section keeping a light but steady grip. 'Just Don't Want To Be Lonely' remains the emotional anchor, stretched into a long, reflective arc. It's Philadelphia soul at full height and handled with finesse.
