BLACK SABBATH ~ BLACK SABBATH LP

Original 1972 U.K. stereo pressing released on the Vertigo swirl label VO 6.

Description :

Very rare and hard to find hard prog rock classic that has become increasingly collectable over the last few years.

Black Sabbath were signed to Philips Records in November 1969, and released their first single, "Evil Woman" (a cover of a song by the band Crow) through Philips subsidiary Fontana Records in January 1970, and later handled by Philips' newly formed progressive rock label, Vertigo Records. Although the single failed to chart, the band were afforded two days of studio time in November to record their debut album with producer Rodger Bain. Iommi recalls recording live: "We thought 'We have two days to do it and one of the days is mixing.' So we played live. Ozzy was singing at the same time, we just put him in a separate booth and off we went. We never had a second run of most of the stuff."

Black Sabbath was released on Friday the 13th, February 1970. The album reached number 8 in the UK Albums Chart, and following its US and Canadian release in May 1970 by Warner Bros. Records, the album reached number 23 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for over a year.

Condition ~ Vinyl :

The vinyl is in super clean EXCELLENT condition with just a couple of faint marks.

Audio Quality :

The sound quality is excellent with just occasional very light background crackle between the tracks. The music is a sheer delight to listen to. Stunningly crisp and clear!!!

Condition ~ Sleeve :

The classic striking gatefold sleeve is in overall decent shape with just very light edge and a little spine wear. VG++ bordering on EXCELLENT condition.

Condition ~ Inner Sleeve :

Comes complete with the original black & white custom Vertigo swirl poly-lined inner sleeve which is in excellent condition.

Condition ~ Labels :

Both labels are nice and clean with just a few faint age spots and the odd light spindle mark. No writing.

Matrix Numbers :

Side one : VO 6  1Y* 1   

Side two : VO 6 2Y* 1

Also has "Richard Lingham" etched into the run-off groove on both sides.

Miscellaneous :
