Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is the fifth studio album by Black Sabbath, released in 1973. With this album, the band expanded upon their slow, crunching style of music and included synthesisers, strings, keyboards and more complex, orchestral arrangements.

Following the 1972-1973 world tour in support of their Volume 4 album, Black Sabbath again returned to Los Angeles, California to begin work on their next album. Pleased with the Volume 4 album, the band sought to recreate the recording atmosphere, and returned to the Record Plant Studios with new producer and engineer Tom Allom.

After a month in Los Angeles with no results, the band opted to return to England, where they rented Clearwell Castle in The Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. "We rehearsed in the dungeons and it was really creepy but it had some atmosphere, it conjured up things, and stuff started coming out again". While working in the dungeon, Iommi stumbled onto the main riff of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", which set the tone for the new material. Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman was brought in as a session player, appearing on "Sabbra Cadabra" and "Who Are You"!

Black Sabbath released Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath on December 1, 1973. For the first time in their career, the band began to receive favourable reviews in the mainstream press, with Rolling Stone calling the album "an extraordinarily gripping affair", and "nothing less than a complete success". Later reviewers such as All Music's Ed Rivadavia cite the album as "a masterpiece, essential to any heavy metal collection", while also displaying "a newfound sense of finesse and maturity.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

It is unbelievably hard to find copies of SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH with great audio. So many vinyls, even visually clean examples can play with a  lot of distortion and repetitive clicks. For such a raucous album that is not surprising, but the mastering also meant that these vinyls were prone to dust penetration and surface noise, and there are a lot of quiet areas that can just sound terrible on worn copies.

To give an example of how unusual this pressing is, there is a faint vocal echo on Ozzy's voice on the 'Sabbra Caddabra' track. Not the echo on the primary vocal, but a very faint second vocal. This can usually never be heard, it is so faint and the slightest vinyl wear will cover it up.

This stunning record gives a great AUDIO 1st press example, with incredible Strong, undistorted sound, and no dominant static or surface sound. That means TOP audio,  - NO audio blurring, NO distortion, NO background noise or hiss what so ever, and silence between the tracks.

Channels are largely clean and unstressed. The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals which come through with tremendous power. As with the bass and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and precise. I will give a detailed account below:

Even for Black Sabbath Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is a complex and varied collection of music, and hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like 'Looking for Today.' This pressing has amazing strong undistorted audio, with crystal clear sound. NO interference, and NO pops or clicks. Obviously no Distortion. Any static is extremely low level, to a point that is unusual for any vinyl. It really sounds great and plays with great sound separation and clarity!

The album starts crystal clear music, with so many sounds band layering that is usually in audible. There is some light static at the very start and then 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' burst in with amazing power and clarity, a complex track with extremely complex audio layering, all bright and clear. A wonderful 'A National Acrobat' really sounds like it has never been played, its so clear. 'Fluff' so delicate and poignant plays really well, with virtually NO background static at all. A couple of light staid tics and certainly no pops or clicks. 'Sabbra Cadabra' finishes off side one with incredible clear bright sound. Absolutely Perfect audio.

'Killing Yourself to Live' powers in side two, again with super clear audio. No pops or clicks, absolutely minimal static. A few light static tics only. 'Who Are You' and 'Looking for Today' plays with great clear sound, absolutely superb audio. There are three light pops in the middle of 'Who are You' and a few light static tics but they are not that noticeable. 'Spiral Architect' finishes off this great album, again with great crystal clear audio, no loud pops clicks no static or surface sound during the track. There is some very light background static during the ultra quiet introduction, but certainly nothing dominant. Amazing.

I really enjoyed every second of this rare ULTRA RARE 1st pressing. There are NO repeat tics, NO distortion, of course NO sticks or jumps what so ever. This pressing plays with crisp crystal clear audio throughout, with no loss of audio performance what so ever. Truly unbelievable audio experience. I would give this a grading of EXCELLENT PLUS to NEAR MINT condition.

THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING

This is a superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original pressings, this vinyl has been barely played. The record has great shine, with NO scratches and only a few very light handing makes. Inspected under a spot light, there are barely any paper removal marks, a couple of ultra light whispy lines only. This is a stunning example.

Graded at EXCELLENT PLUS to NEAR MINT condition.

A great all round Complete and Rare example of this ROCK MASTERPIECE

THE LABELS

Superb labels. There is one single spindle trace on one side, and none at all on the other. How rare is that. This album has certainly only been played a couple of times. No marks or writing what so ever, and NO brush marks that these labels seem prone to. Great all round examples.

Graded at NEAR MINT condition.

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever, when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.

THE COVER

The unlaminated covers of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath are almost impossible to find in great condition. They are nearly always scuffed and creased to a large extent, if not heavily worn, with white specs where the colour has been worn off across the flat surfaces. I dont need to tell you how rare it is to have a pressing that is has a solid square spine and un worn edges.

This is the very rare 1st cover version. Also, on the rear cover there are faint outlines around the text, illustrating the cut and paste methods used to produce these earliest covers.

This great complete 1st press comes with the original unlaminated cover, which is a very nice example. The cover shows light handling wear, minimal creasing and corner wear, and has certainly no tears or serious defects. There is no feathering to the openings, which is very unusual. The cover is square and un flattened and has been has not lost any of its shape. the inside gatefold is pretty much perfect  and the cover has none of the usual finger print smudges on the outside of the inside or the pages. I would have to grade this at EXCELLENT.

THE INNER

Great Original 1st Press thin paper  inner sleeve in EXCELLENT PLUS condition. A great example, with some light creases only, there are no tears and NO seem splits. Unbelievable for such a rare and delicate cover. The sleeve is yellowed as these nearly always are, and the original print is unfaded and deep black, which is also very unusual. This is a great fully intact and complete example.

RARITY

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath  is a highly collectable vinyl, reaching increasingly high prices. And there are a number of good reasons. It is a classic, ground breaking piece of music, and has a number of brilliantly designed components, all if which are prone to wear. A matt cover, which is nearly always heavily marked and scuffed,  a black and white inner sleeve, that is usually stained and torn or lost all together, and a great vinyl that was nearly always played into submission.

THIS IS A GREAT ALL ROUND 1ST PRESSING. FINDING AN ORIGINAL UK 1st STEREO PRESS OF Sabbath Bloody Sabbath  IN STUNNING ALL ROUND CONDITION, a 1st PRESSINGS THAT IS EXMELY RARE.

THIS IS A GREAT PLAYING VINYL WITH SUPER BRIGHT CLEAR AUDIO, A SUPERB COVER AND INNER. ALL MAKING THIS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO OWN AN EXTREMELY RARE PIECE OF MUSICAL HISTORY!

SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING; PLEASE NOTE:

This record has been play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. I aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound quality, pointing out any defects so that you know what you are buying. I will not go into screeds of information about the nature of the songs, as I imagine that you already know them well. I aim to describe all items as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

.

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

The highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. I only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance, super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.
