Black Power – Black Power (A Voz do Cabo Verde, Portugal, 1970’s)

Never had this marvellous album before... This comes straight from Portugal, where this totally obscure record was released. Black Power is an African band coming from Cabo Verde, and their music is heavily influenced by the US soul and funk repertoire… The combo consists of a quartet (bass, drums, guitar and organ) plus a male singer. Nice percussion breaks on “Nô crê liberdade”, cool downtempo afro groove on “Oraçao do amor perdido”, nice slow tune “Vete ya”, plus two cover versions of James Brown’s classics : “Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World” and the irresistible “Woman”… Ready to melt ?
