Description
BILL FLETCHER -- Listen Love and Learn - The Primary Pop Album -- hard to find, original late 1960's (??) U.S. album. For Outsider Music and late 1960's DIY/Acid Archives-type fans -- this is an apparently unknown Private Press LP out of Redondo Beach, California aimed at the children's market. About half the songs are typically cheerful kiddie ditties -- but the other half, God bless, venture into demented, repetitive Shaggs - "My Pal Foot Foot" territory with deceptively simple songs about colors, numbers and elephants fueled by groovy Rock organ somewhere between "96 Tears" and Procol Harum ... High point here is probably "We Walk" which starts out fairly slow and then explodes into growling, deranged vocals and throbbing organ while Fletcher wails off-key: "We walk ... Just like an Elephant ... swinging a big trunk." Equally good is "Here We Have the Colors Pts. I and II" which ventures into Donovan-esque Folk-Psych territory with the band endlessly repeating the names of colors: Blue, Yellow, Indigo etc. "We Sing To The Music" and "The Number Song" are also top-notch Outsider/DIY nuggets, and the LP closes with a mournful, Folk-Garagey instrumental "Listen and Feel." There's an insert booklet with classroom instructions that reads on the front page: "The Purpose - Enlightenment ... The Means - Joy ... The Product - Reality," which pretty much tells you where these guys were coming from. There's no date on it but from the cover and songs I'm guessing 1968-1970. This was most likely a home-made pressing by a bunch of local Los Angeles late Sixties Rock musicians trying to break into the children's music market. There's apparently no information on this one, anywhere -- I've never seen another copy. See photos for track list. Cover: VG-, ring wear and wear at corners/edges, 1" split at upper right corner. Includes insert booklet. Record: Fair+, moderate scuffs and surface marks, well worn but plays well, on Love & Learn Children's Products private label, U.S. press.
