ULTRA RARE ORIOLE BIRD LABEL!
Here is a great opportunity for someone to own a real prize gem for your R&B collection. This came from a friend of mine who has been collecting records for many years and is starting to liquidate sense he is now 70 years old. Records like these are becoming more and more sought after and are rarely found on the open market. The influence of The Blues is definitely heard in this record along with an upbeat type Boogie Tune that only Bessie can do with her inspirational voice. I'm not going to go into what Bessie or Lucille Bogan (as many artist refer to her name as) offered to the world of blues but one thing is for sure...she delivered it with honesty and integrity and actually gave her own life experiences thru the many tunes she sang. The Sloppy Drunk Blues Tune is a classic to say the least...many recording artist like Clapton...B.B. King...Muddy Waters...etc!...have done their versions to success but this is the original version and quite frankly there is nothing like listening to this Queen of blues sing and deliver this message on boozing it.
The Record: It's the Rare Oriole Bird Label that is extremely hard to find and the record rates a solid VG+..The record has normal play with surface scratches and a few little nicks on the outside (not chips or cracks) I have professionally cleaned this record using no abravsives and no polishes to get any residues out of the grooves. The Record plays straight which means no warpage and no skips or no jumps with very light normal static noise depending on what kind of record player you have. Record labels on both sides are very vivid both in the lithography and writing.
Date of this particular record would fall between the years of 1933 to 1935 based on her psuedonym name of Bessie Jackson! This is an oldie and a goodie in the Blues Genre of Music!
Whoever wins this auction will have something to cherish much like my friend has..a piece of music history (Blues) to truely appreciate and enjoy.
VALUE OF THIS RECORD IS $HIGH$ BUT I'M STARTING IT AT A LOW MINIMUM SO EVERYONE INTERESTED CAN JOIN IN AND MAKE THEIR BID.
Hardcore might be the best way to describe the Blues singing of Lucille Bogan. While many of the Classic Blues singers of the 1920s tackled risqué and controversial issues in their songs, Bogan almost exclusively focused on explicit sexual themes, like prostitution, adultery and lesbianism, and social ills such as alcoholism, drug addiction and abusive relationships. She was born in Mississippi but grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1923 she made her first recordings in Atlanta, Georgia. The records apparently didn't sell well because she didn't record again until 1927 for the Paramount and Brunswick labels after moving to Chicago. Between 1933 and 1935 she performed and recorded under the pseudonym Bessie Jackson and worked with pianist Walter Roland. Bogan's recording career came to an end in 1935 and she eventually returned to Birmingham where she reverted to her real name and performed in and managed the group Bogan's Birmingham Busters but did not appear on either of the group's records. In the late 1930s or early l940s, Bogan moved to the West Coast. She died in Los Angeles in 1948 of coronary sclerosis.
