Description

*** Once upon a time, I worked in a museum. So I know a lot about collections stewardship and preservation. All rare Beatles records I will be listing on ebay over the next few weeks come from my personal, meticulously tended private collection maintained in quiet, light-controlled, climate controlled archival-type setting in a clean, pet-free, smoke-free home. ***

It is highly likely you won't see many other Beatles releases here on ebay as clean and impeccable as those I am currently offering. They all follow, strictly to the letter, the condition reports I prepare, and more – and they are all guaranteed to be just as nice as anything you will see offered by high profile sellers like Perry Cox and Parlogram. How do I know this? Because I bought my stuff from them, and have given all of it the white-glove treatment ever since.

And with a no-quibble return policy, you can’t go wrong. All you’ll be out is the shipping fees if you want to return an item. But – hear me now, believe me later – once you have this piece in your possession, you won’t want to return it.

See my other Beatles albums currently for sale here on ebay.

I still have an inventory of fantastically clean Beatles items to list. More first press, near-mint UK Parlophones, unplayed singles, some other sealed LPs, some sealed solo stuff, much more and … what are you looking for? Send me a message to find out how I might help you round out your Beatles record collection.

THE BEATLES – The Beatles ("White Album") ?1970 U.S. Apple Double LP SWBO-101
Includes poster and individual photos of John, Paul, George, and Ringo FACTORY SEALED Time capsule copy !!!

Up for auction is an original, second-press (?1970) Beatles White Album U.S. Apple LP – still FACTORY SEALED, 48 years after it left the factory.
I refer to this volume as "second issue" – the version of the White Album with the embossed letters "The BEATLES" on the front, but no serial number. This is among the last of the U.S. Apple pressings of the White Album pressed with the embossed cover. Not long after, Capitol switched to a printed cover – with "The BEATLES" instead only in grey print (... and then shortly after that, the Apple label was also changed, to the red Capitol label).

CONDITION REPORT

Photography caveat: This was an extremely difficult album to photograph – not only because is it solid white, but because it is still in the factory shrinkwrap. In all the photos, there appear to be "spots" and hazy areas that are just not there. These anomalies are NOT on the cover itself, and are merely caused by reflections on the shrinkwrap. Rest assured – this piece, when you are holding it in your hands, looks so much cleaner and nicer – practically pristine and almost as nice as the day it came off the racks at your local record shop. The pictures don't do it justice!

Overall, the record is in exemplary condition for its age. There are no outward signs of mishandling or improper storage at any time in its long life.
This thick volume lays perfectly flat, and the text on the spine is nicely centered. All four corners are perfectly straight.
The shrinkwrap is still very tight all the way around, and exhibits no "breathe holes."
The edge with the openings and the bottom edge exhibit some areas of extremely mild foxing. This is typical for a volume this old, and the foxing is truly negligible; it's mentioned only to be thorough in my description.
The top upper edge at the opening (front view) exhibits two nearly-microscopic dings (I mean 3 mm and 2 mm, respectively). There is also one additional, thin handling mark, measuring approx. 10 mm on the back, in the middle very close to the spine. Also, I would draw your attention to photograph #5, bottom edge (front view), close to the left corner. There you will see an area of gray marks measuring approx. 7 mm wide by 4 mm tall. This also appears to be a handling mark of some sort, on the white pressboard. It's a tiny area and the marks are not offensive at all. These are all ridiculously negligible flaws, mentioned only in the interest of full disclosure. (Most other sellers probably wouldn't even mention something so minor.)
The embossed letters "The BEATLES" are free of the dirt that so often create an indelible "shadow" on and around the letters themselves.
On both the front and the back, there is the slight circular impression being caused by the two records and the inserts (poster and photos). It's definitely not ring wear.

All the flaws detailed above do not detract from the aesthetics and the beauty of this marvelous volume – it's so nice to see a copy in such remarkable shape as this.
In addition:
  • No mold
  • No dirt
  • No funky smells
  • No warping
  • No ring wear
  • No edge wear
  • No seam splits
  • Not a reissue
  • Not a reseal
  • Not a counterfeit
The poster and the photos are believed to be inside, no question. The records themselves are guaranteed to be on the Apple label (according to Bruce Spizer's book), and are believed to be in at least high Near Mint condition, if not perfectly Mint.

A CLOSING NOTE

I have done my best to provide an accurate description of this item at the time it was listed. Sometimes, a typographical error takes place, or a flaw detail may be inadvertently overlooked. Since ebay does not allow item description changes after the first bid, I will disclose any material changes in the item description before the invoice is issued. This way, the purchaser will have the option of cancelling the sale by mutual agreement and with no dispute. Both prospective and active bidders always have the option of requesting item description updates before bidding or during the course of the auction. These updates, if any, will then be posted in the Questions and Answers section.
