BEATLES – Ultra-rare Dutch hand-operated greetings disc
Here is an exceptionally rare and highly unusual item, featuring the four Beatles giving greetings to their fans, recorded onto a mini (12 cm diameter) flexidisc mounted onto card, played by placing the built-in stylus into the groove and rotating the disc with your finger. It takes a little practice to get the speed right (although it’s rather fun when you err on the fast or slow side!), but when you do you get: “Hello, this is John speaking with his voice. We’re all very happy to be able to talk to you on this little piece of plastic…” followed by similar jokey remarks from Paul, Ringo and George, in the vein of the banter on the Xmas flexis. Unlike those, though, of which I’ve seen many copies, I’ve never come across another one of these. The year is not stated, but it’s obviously mid-1960s. It is of Dutch origin, with ‘Onze Soundorama Spreekmachine Spreekt voor Zichself’ and the playing instructions in Dutch (but fortunately obvious in their simplicity!). It is in its original envelope (although funnily enough, this is in English), and in excellent condition. Envelope measures 21.7 x 18.1 cm.
