This auction is for a an original STEREO 1st pressing of the Beatles LP 'A Hard Day's Night' on the UK Parlophone label. This pressing has the original 'chubby' typeset on the labels, indicating a 1st press.
Back in 1964 the stereo format was still very much the underdog. Stereo discs cost more than their mono counterparts and stereophonic record players were still priced up to the point of being a highly expensive luxury. Because of this, the original stereo presses sold in far, far fewer numbers than the mono presses. Only a tiny percentage of the original chubby typeset 1st presses were stereo and, today, are extremely rare and highly collectible!
But the best part of this album is the condition! Back in 1964 Beatlemania was in full flow, and when an album was released the original 1st presses were bought up by the fans who then played them over and over into oblivion, or took them to parties where record players would get knocked by dancers and scratch the record. The majority of copies that turn up today are usually pretty trashed. This copy, however, looks absolutely gorgeous and is in a really good, top, respectible condition!

The cover is looking phenomenal for its age and is just showing some light aging. The condition, overall, is really something else! The front cover has a gorgeously rich blue colour to it and the laminate is completely clean from any dirt, showing off a lovely sharp, thick shine that the original laminate gave. The corners are sharp and the outer edges have pretty much no creasing whatsoever! There's just one very tiny one on the bottom and one just to the left of John on the spine. That's it. Usually these sleeves have them all over! The top bar is clean and still has a lovely, pale cream colour to it. There's also no disc impression bar a very light ridge at the bottom. The cover is flat and the mouth edge still has a wonderfully sharp edge to it. Usually these have frayed through years of use. Top and bottom seams are holding perfectly with no splits or tears. The spine is almost completely uncrushed except for a little rounding at the very top and bottom. The spine is untouched from creasing and wear and is looking perfect! The back has yellowed slightly and there's a few little spots here and there, but overall the back is very clean and the overflaps are still stuck tightly down and looking great! Overall, incredible sleeve! Inner Sleeve: EX+

The original tissue paper Emitex inner is included. It's still it's original light cream colour and just has a little light creasing in the corners. There are one or two very light little brown spots here and there but overall, the inner is very clean. The opening is pretty much completely free from creasing and wear and all of the seams are holding tight with no rips or splits. The tissue inner has not come loose in any way. Beautiful inner! The playing surface has a beautifully crisp, sharp shine to it and the playing surface, as a whole, is looking clean and free from any markings. The only thing bringing the grading down is just a few areas of very light, barely visible scuffing. Incredible disc, especially since most of these turn up completely trashed these days!

The labels are clean and have bright, sharp silver text. The labels look incredible with no wear, writing, stickers etc. I can only just about see one or two, barely visible, solitary spindlemarks and there's just the lightest hint of whitening around the centrehole. Check the photos out. Top labels!!!
