Description
THE BEATLES Please Please Me UK 1ST MONO WITH 1ST/2ND CROSSOVER BLACK & GOLD LABEL DICK JAMES/NORTHERN -1N/-1N MATRIX
Rare UK first pressing on black & gold Parlophone labels with 1st/2nd Label, 1st Mothers, and early single character stampers.
Description:
An original UK first pressing of Please Please Me, released in 1963 on the Parlophone label, catalogue number PMC 1202.
This is the highly sought-after 1st press featuring the black & gold Parlophone labels with “Dick James Mus. Co.” credit errors on side one and corrected "Northern Songs" credits on side 2.
The matrices read XEX 421-1N / XEX 422-1N, confirming a true first pressing. Both sides also show early mother/stamper markings consistent with initial production runs.
The sleeve is the correct early Ernest J. Day printed example with large mono indicator on the front and Angus McBean photo credit in the far right position before being moved to the left slightly for subsequent pressings. Including original Emitex lined inner sleeve.
A genuine and desirable VERY early UK first pressing.
Matrix / Runout: XEX 421-1N / XEX 422-1N
Label: Parlophone – Black & Gold, 'ringed' side 2
Catalogue Number: PMC 1202
Mother & Stamper Codes: 1T/1H
Tax Code: MT, side 1
Pressing: UK – First Press (1963)
Sleeve: Ernest J. Day flipback 'gold' sleeve
Inner: Original Emitex inner sleeve
Condition:
The record is in fantastic condition. The vinyl has a jet-black & deep-gloss surface with light signs of play consistent with careful use. The audio is superb across both sides, quiet lead-ins to both sides and between tracks. No loud pops or repeat clicks to distract from the raw energy of that iconic recording. Obviously there are not such issues as skips or sticks with this high grade. EXCELLENT!
The sleeve is in EXCELLENT condition on the front, spine and edges, and VERY GOOD condition on the back down to some whitener on the top flip-back.
The original Emitex inner sleeve is in EXCELLENT condition with light signs of use.
