THE BEATLES ''PLEASE PLEASE ME'' 4th UK PRESSING!   ((MONO))  CAT NO PMC 1202 YELLOW\BLACK PARLOPHONE LABELS! AWESOME MINT AUDIO ON MY SYSTEMS!  BARELY PLAYED! (NO) AUDIO SOUNDING MARKS OR SCRATCHES! STUNNING THICK CARD E.DAY & CO FLIPBACK COVER! TOP COPY, RARELY SEEN LIKE THIS!

Please Please Me is the debut album by the English rock band The Beatles. Parlophone rush-released the album on 22 March 1963 in the United Kingdom to capitalise on the success of singles "Please Please Me" (number one on most lists but only number two on Record Retailer)[ and "Love Me Do" (number 17)!.

Of the album's fourteen songs, eight were written by Lennon/McCartney, early evidence of their invention of the idea of the self-contained rock band, writing their own hits and playing their own instruments!!."

In order for the album to contain fourteen songs (the norm for British 12" vinyl pop albums at that time was to have seven songs on each side, while American albums usually had only five or six songs per side) ten more tracks were needed to add to the four sides of their first two singles recorded and released previously. Therefore, at 10:00 am on Monday, 11 February 1963 at EMI Studios (whose name was later changed to Abbey Road Studios), The Beatles and George Martin started recording what was essentially their live act in 1963, and finished 585 minutes later (9 hours and 45 minutes). In three sessions that day (each lasting approximately three hours) they produced an authentic representation of the band's Cavern Club-era sound, as there were very few overdubs and edits. Optimistically, only two sessions were originally booked by Martin—the evening session was added later. George Martin initially contemplated recording the album live at the Cavern in front of the group's home audience and visited the Liverpool club on 9 December 1962 to consider the technicalities. But when time constraints intervened, he decided to book them at Abbey Road Studios instead and record them virtually live. Martin said, "It was a straightforward performance of their stage repertoire — a broadcast, more or less."

The day ended with a cover of "Twist and Shout", which had to be recorded last because John Lennon had a particularly bad cold and Martin feared the throat-shredding vocal would ruin Lennon's voice for the day. This performance, captured first take, and generally regarded as a classic, prompted Martin to say: "I don't know how they do it. We've been recording all day but the longer we go on the better they get."

The song "Hold Me Tight" was recorded during these sessions, but was "surplus to requirements" and not included on the album. "Hold Me Tight" was recorded again on 12 September 1963 for With The Beatles.

The whole day's session cost around £400. George Martin said: "There wasn't a lot of money at Parlophone. I was working to an annual budget of £55,000." This budget had to cover all of the artists on Martin's roster.

Individually, under a contract with the Musicians' Union, each Beatle collected a seven pounds and ten shillings (£7.50) session fee for each three hour session!.

Martin considered calling the album Off the Beatle Track before Please Please Me was released on Parlophone PCS 3042!.

Please Please Me was recorded on a two-track BTR tape recording machine, with most of the instrumentation on one track and the vocals on the other, allowing for a better balance between the two on the final quarter-inch tape mix-down in mono. A stereo mix was made at the same time as the mono mix, with one track on the left channel and the other on the right, as well as an added layer of reverb to better blend the two tracks together. This was common practice for playback on stereo consoles!!.

The Vinyl

On initial inspection of the playing surface This looks Awesome!  Still retaining its original deep glossy sheen from new!! LOOK SUPERBE! It is hard to even see a blemish! Any that could possibly be seen would be whispy sleeve removal marks, minor\minute scuffs only!!

Importantly this is the original very thick ,heavy and chunky slab of vinyl, only found like this on the earliest pressings!

The Audio Quality

 I have carefuly played this through track for track as usual prior to listing at very loud volume on a top system using a dedicated mono cartridge!, and the audio is truly awesome  certainly (no) jumps or skips CRISTAL CLEAR AND VIBRANT ON ALL FREQUENCIES! This is one of the best that you will find of this pressing TOP! TOP! AUDIO WILL BE HARD TO SURPASS! This sounds and looks like new in my opinion it has only ever been played by me a few times only,,  certainly not overplayed!! Unbeleivable for an original, Beatles pressing that is 47 years old!!!! This is clear and vibrant with, of course (no) signs of distortion or that this has been over played at all!!!  In my opinion this looks and plays Top! on all frequencies! Audio graded as good as it gets in my opinion Near mint throughout!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion as usual when describing the audio quality. I heard no  problems Please allow for the odd isolated static\ ! Please remember that this is an original 47 year old vinyl that has been played and would have originally been played on a 47 year old system and would benefit from a clean before each play!!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 40 years! From my experiance this vinyl would benefit from a constant clean before each play! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves over a period of laying dormant, produces static crackle\ticks and constant cleaning reduces this static and subsequently enhances the audio quality!

The labels!

These are the original 4th issue Yello\Black Parlophone labels features ''recording 1st published 1963'' on the labels (only 4th press) spidering only noticable when  angled to the light little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round and very tight around the spindle hole! (SEE PHOTOS) Amaizing Condition! 

The Record sleeve

This is the original Emitex poly lined paper sleeve with made in Great Britain and patent number.  without splits or tares just light creasing with age! Original in superbe condition!

The cover

This is the original  UK issue, thick card type  E.Day & co laminated front only flipback cover! This is in awesome top condition This has been stored in a case seperated from the vinyl in a case which has preserved this for all of this time, which has prevented any real ringware so common on these covers!  Super, super glossy laminate! There is just one minor corner crease to report only (see photos)  all writing is legable! In general any storageware is very minimal indeed. The rear is truly exceptional! There are no splits or tares (no) nasty handwriting  Graded as at least excellent plus in my opinion! Very rare like this!!
